Concerned..Dr. Bob

Posted by Phil on April 27, 2002, at 11:25:36

I know I've lost my temper in this discussion and that is very rare..but, I did.

I love this community and try to, at the very least, understand and try to help others.

The level of animosity is, frankly, getting a little scary. If PB2000 is wrong, then how wrong is hatred. Bekka's posts in particular are not only hurtful to old-timers but to, basically, anyone.

Some of these venemous post are getting harsh. Any suggestions besides just don't answer them?

Am I losing my equilibrium here, do I need a break?

Phil, do like me. My nerves/depression are bothering me now so I haven't been able to read or respond as much. I see the long threads, arguments, & counter-arguments & simply ignore it all. I can't handle it well now so simply don't handle it.

I'd prefer not to know about all the hurt (& worse) that's going on. I'm trying to post (when I'm able) as if the whole thing hasn't happened. I'm not being an ostrich with my head in the sand - after all, this is only cyberspace not the physical world & physical people that we can't avoid. I don't mean the people here aren't just as real but are only as real to us as we choose. If it's bothersome, we can choose to to open the threads & read them.

I will continue to think kind thoughts about ALL & hope they think so about me. I will individually answer those posts that I know I can (or think I can) contribute to in a positive way, even if it's simply understanding & empathy. And I'll choose to ignore those I can't offer any positive to or that would only add more fuel to the fire.

I still so enjoyed your list of topics for OT to discuss. I've saved it among my humour files. Take care, dear Phil & do try to think kindly of others, even when it's difficult.

I need to go walk around the block. Where's my blue thong, flip-flops, and cowboy hat?
Sometimes on walks, I'll stop by the grocery store to pick up my methadone, valium and PowerBars. Isom, that freezer section git's cold!! eewwwww
That reminds me, I need to ask my pdoc about my paranoia, seems like the whole store just stops and stares. Hey, it's Texas, 90 degree high today. What should I wear, a suit??

Thongs in the Grocery Store » Phil

Phil, I just have to add a bit...

On our local 6 o'clock evening news show every Friday, the sportscaster, who has a very wry sense of humour, rounds up a mixed batch of video tid-bits called "Satellite Debris" - weird commercials, 'sport' events from around the world, etc. This Friday, there was a short piece of what someone had to do to win a radio contest. A guy in a pink wig, wearing only a leopard print thong, stood in a grocery cart with his arms outstretched as someone else wheeled him about in a grocery store. The poor concerned Chinese store manager came running up to chase them off while trying to avoid looking at the contestant's eye-level crotch. Meanwhile, our sports announcer was adding audio by crying out "Not near the produce section! Not near the produce section!" while the newscasters & weatherman were cracking up.

So, if the store stops & stares, do you at least get any any 'ladies' giving you their phone number?

Let me know when and where, ok? This I gotta see! (nm) » Phil

I agree completely, and you have put it very well.

I do hope that you feel stronger soon- take care of yourself, as well as others?

Thank you, Fi. I have been trying to care care of myself. I may be a bit of a weirdo (pleasantly so) but I'm imminently practical. That's what you get when your left & right sides of the brain are perfectly balanced.

My stomach's calmed down some - I went a day without eating & only a bit to drink & I think it rested the nerves & muscles. Now I'm eating rice & veggies - so soothing to my poor tummy. Making sure to take enough liquids & vitamins/minerals, sleep, etc. Stay away from sad news on TV (mostly) & have my logical mind keep an eye on my emotional side should it get too riled up over trivia.

My sweet young neighbour came & helped me clean. I felt so ashamed at first but she put me completely at ease saying it never bothered her for me to see her house messy - and she's such a wonderful tease. She's like me in many ways. Even her dog (a mix that looks like a German shepherd) is SO like the dog & I had when I was young. I've been around her since she was a puppy & I adore her & she adores me. I think she thinks I'm an extension of her family. When Allena (my neighbour) & I are out gardening together, her dog races back & forth between us thinking she's now got one big yard & two owners. I keep my kitties indoor when she's playing with us.

Still my adrafinil hasn't come but got a letter saying it should be here this week. Last time I ever order from THAT company. Then things should properly settle down. I think all the support I had from my neighbours, my Mom, & my sons has helped calm my nerves (along with the tranks my doctor gave me for now). I'm starting to see life as humourous again. Good sign.

Yesterday on TV, I saw another group of North & south Korean families reunited after 50 years. I just sat & cryed with them. And it made me think that my problems & stresses (external & internal) aren't nearly so bad after all. Write me, if you'd like to. I'm not real regular on returning e-mails but I do like to keep in touch with those I find dear on these boards. I will answer back but there's sometimes long gaps between answers.

PS - I found the secret for cleaning (at least for me). I needed to clean one large area in the living room as a work space. The I just went to the different rooms & would throw everything cluttered into a small box & bring it out to the clearing. In the clearing, I have one box for paper-stuff to throw out & recycle, another box for stuff to give to thrift store, another for washing or cleaning off, & another for good books & papers to save plus a large garbage receptacle. I only take a small box at a time to sort out, then when finished go back for more. That way I don't feel overwhelmed & after a few boxes sorted, I take a short break for tea or like answering on this board before going back to tackle more. I'm a genius! I think this too has helped me calm my nerves. How goes your battle with your house. Maybe I can come out when mine's finished & help you. ^_^

That is such a good approach to house cleaning. And I'm so happy you let your neighbor help you...and any dog being around will perk one up!

Sounding better all the time!

I'm pleased to hear about Allena -she sounds great! And that you are taking care of what you eat.

Its never worth comparing with how others are- of course there is always someone in the world in an appalling situation, but that doesnt mean you arent suffering. If you get my meaning. Your pain is valid. I try not to watch the news at all when I'm feeling vulnerable, or at least limit myself to the headlines. It can all get rather overwhelming..

Many thanks for the clearing up ideas- will go home now and clear myself a workspace!

Glad to hear your practical side is keeping going-do cosset your emotional side too?

Fi
