Hi Bekka,

No, I'm a 52 year old contracts administrator for an international non-profit organization. Most of my work involves federal grants management, final editing of grant proposals, and final review of proposed program budgets. My education is in public administration and business.

I'm bipolar II, atypical and refractive -- I tend to sleep and eat all the time. I have two strong cycles a year, currently mitigated to a great extent by medication.

Between severe onset of depression in July/August 1993 and June 1997, I tried about 25 different anti-depressants and adjunctive medications before hitting upon a mix that gave me a basis for healing. Once the right mix of medications put a floor under me, I was able to re-enter therapy and work towards becoming whole again.

I'm extremely fortunate to be married to the love of my life -- our 18th wedding anniversary is in May, and we've been together now for over 19 years. Both of us were married before, and neither of us have children. Sue and I met in group therapy in 1982.

My colleagues at work have been extraordinary in extending me every imaginable accommodation for my disability, including putting up with my inability to get to work before noon or later for sometimes months at a time.

My psychiatrist originally suggested Psycho-Babble to me, and I've been here off and on for the past two years or so. I owe a great deal to Dr. Bob and many of the regular and old-time posters on Psycho-Babble.

I need everyone's help to get us smoothly through the next week. One way of thanking Dr. Bob for providing this space for us year 'round is to show him that he can go to a conference or take a vacation without having to worry about the board while he's gone. That task falls to all of us.

I've very much admired and respected your posts, Bekka. You have a remarkable intelligence and a compassionate, sensitive touch. It's great to be in a community with you.

With warm regards,

Mark H.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your very kind words. I've been feeling awfully blue lately, and your note was the one bright spot in my day.

That's wonderful that you have been able to find a good mix of medications. I'm still struggling to find the right mix, but I have a really difficult time with "polypharmacy." If only I could trade in my liver enzymes for a less deficient set. I have so much trouble combining meds. So many combinations seem perfect in theory, but when I try them, I feel downright ill. Oh well, I will persevere.

Congratulations on your 18th wedding anniversary! That's a really nice photograph. Thank you for inviting us into your life.

I hope this week goes well for you. Remember, tomorrow is the first day of spring.

Bekka
