Dr. Bob--
Is there any way to have some of my posts permanantly
deleted? I am having some serious regrets about posting
about some personal issues on psycho-social babble, and
now fear my S.O. discovering them. This is causing me
a great deal of stress. I should have thought more before
I posted. Is deleting them a possibility?Thanks,
Roo

I'm not usually an impulsive poster...I've been
posting here for 3 years or so and have never
posted something I wanted to take back...I was just in a
moment of stress and reached out for contact...and
now really regret it. I'm not sure what a compromise
would be...I'd have to relook at all the threads to
decide. Or maybe I could change my name on those
threads...Roo is very obvious. My idea would be
either to
1. Delete the one thread that I most regret
2. Delete parts of that thread, which would be most
of it
3. Retroactively change my name.
4. Or if you have any other ideas...I'll feel less exposed when it's archived. Social
PB is filling up pretty quickly, so maybe that'll happen
soon.

> Dr Bob - I think the notion of allowing people to selectively edit specific portions of posts hurts the integrity of the board far more than just simply deleting an individual post. What would be your objection to deleting a post an replacing it on the thread with something like "post deleted at poster's request" or words to that effect. That way, people who are reading archived posts have some sense of what was once there.

I'm curious about how that could work effectively without deleting the entire thread... Most of the time, (from what I've seen) is that the original post is quoted....
just thinking aloud..

How about selectively deleting (as opposed to changing) specific portions of posts?

They would just need to be edited, too...

Thanks, Dr. Bob., you've helped to lower my blood
pressure a few notches. I've identified the parts that
make me most uncomfortable, and yes, I'd like to
give you the specifics through email, if possible.
What email address should I use?
This is the end of the thread.
