ECT expert suggestion

Posted by Thrud on May 12, 2001, at 8:06:54

Hi Dr Bob.

Firstly let me thank you for your effort in maintaining this excellent site. I have a suggestion. Recently you had special guest experts answering peoples questions. Unless I was mistaken there was not a great response. I was wondering if you could get an expert or two in ECT to answer questions about ECT. This would certainly get a large (and probably not all friendly) response. For me, I am considering ECT after more than a decade of not finding the "right" med for me, and I would like to know all I can before I finally bite the bullet.
Thank you very much for your time.

Thrud

That's an interesting idea, thanks.

Dr. Bob, In keeping with the above idea. I didn't find the last guest's answers to be of much interest because he either didn't know some of the more controversial or difficult questions, and because his other answers were brief and contained not much more information than any psychiatrist (or many people on the board) would know.

I would rather see someone answer questions in more depth in their specialty (e.g., ECT ), even if it means not having everyone's questions answered. Maybe pick five or six questions to answer.

Anyway, just an idea. I was disappointed the last round. Shelli

I'm not yr cyber-stalker Shelli ( promise), but boy do I agree with yr assessment.

Dr. B, I didn't really want to speak out of turn or sound ungrateful but since someone's set the ball rolling (& that poxy Yahoo poll wouldn't work)...

Was very disappointed with Dr. Richelson who appeared so conventional in his outlook it hurt. Answers seemed curt & generally (politely) dismissive of anything deviating from the norm. Hardly appropriate for this treatment-resistant bunch. I noted his longest answer concerned his (Grand Rnds) talk.

That said it is still a great idea & was well executed. Just find some-one who has a genuine interest in hard-core TRD next time :-)

The ECT thang sounds interesting...

It's always nice to have you agree with me!

Yes, Dr. Bob, and I do apologize for sounding ungrateful; that wasn't very kind of me and I do know that Dr. Richelson must have spent a good deal of time answering so many questions. My apologies for "setting the ball rolling" with so little tact.

I seem to have got caught up in the Methadone thread. People trying to redefine the meaning of 'suicidal'. Apparently I'm not. It seems just lately that if you're going to post anything vaguely left-field you need all the allies you can get, lest you become crushed under the weight of self-righteous admonitions. I like to think of you as a like-minded soul! Keep up the well-balanced posts. This board needs real insight & perspective.

I'm sure you're aware I wasn't implying you sounded ungrateful! I had been itching to post my views, but given the fact Dr. Bob has reprimanded me a couple of times lately (&, I dunno, maybe I'm seen as slightly subversive), I didn't want to be seen to be crossing the line. I left that to you:-)

Actually, looking back, my post seems a little ungrateful. Thanks Dr. R.

Guess I couldn't hide my disappointment...

Ta,
J.
