sparse posting on PSB?

Why aren't that many people posting on psycho-social babble lately? Didn't it used to be a lot busier? (Sorry if this has been covered already.)

Not a board I really use but I had noticed this too.

I wonder, Dr Bob, if it doesn't flip over a little *too* quickly now (twice as quick now?), meaning threads don't get a chance to develop. Maybe instead of twice as fast, *half* as fast again (the original setting *was* too long) wld be better?

On the other hand it may be that it's increasingly dawning on people (as it has with me) just how public this board is (tho' the site milieu suggests otherwise).

I get the impression some people are saving their more intimate & personal postings for private, breakaway e-groups & the like.

Aren't all sites equally public? Or are you talking about private email?

I don't like some of the other depression boards I've seen that much (I know this covers more than depression but that's my main interest in it).

The Psycho-Babble boards seems more solution-oriented. Like people are looking for answers, and most of the posters are well-informed.

I have a lot of empathy for anyone with depression but sometimes when people just post hopeless, desperate messages week after week as is common on other sites I've visited, it threatens to drag me down with them. Some of that is understandable but for me it's difficult to take if it happens too much and there aren't enough of other kinds of posts to relieve it.

This is the only board I use (not the chatty sort); I'm generally a little internet-naive. By 'public' I was referring to the huge volume of traffic here (1 million hits a month!), and the fact that psychobabble is placed so highly on certain search engines. We're talking accessibility here; the messages are the first thing to hit you whereas message boards on some other sites are discretely tucked away.

This is probably nearer the answer; Psychobabble was set up primarily as an information exchange & is probably still seen as such.

Same. The altruist in me wld like to respond (on Socialbabble) but I have enough depression of my own & could do w/o sharing in others difficulties. Med talk is different; it (at least here) greatly increases my chances of recovery, the end game after all.
