Astaxanthin,,The most POWERFUL ANTIOXIDANT

Posted by Jay2112 on March 29, 2023, at 17:50:36

Astaxanthin...supposed to be 1000 x more powerful than vitamin C, 400x more powerful than vitamin e. I am going to get some for the aches caused by antipsychotics. This stuff is supposed to be kick *ss! It's natural...you find it in fish and salmon...it's the dark pink you see in salmon. I am ordering it in liquigel caps. Will post results.

I just started taking n-acetylcysteine for spinal stenosis. Where would you rate it as an antioxidant?

I'm not sure Scott. Did you check it out on pubmed?

I'm too lazy. I was hoping you would do all the legwork.

Well, check out the reviews for Astaxanthin on Amazon. Quite interesting. I'd highly suggest you give it a shot, esp in you need NSAID's, which are quite dangerous (Stroke, high blood pressure, kidney failure.) The studies on Astaxanthin seem to make it out that it is a fairly safe fish extract. Taking it with Krill Oil has been suggested for both inflammatory pain, and even depression. Just got my bottle today, and the pain effect is supposed to be close to immediate after ingestion. My usual culprits, my back and my headaches, seemed to have subsided after an hour of taking. But, that could just be placebo. Will report more later on.

Interesting that Astaxanthin has a role in depression. It specifically reduces inflammation in the brain. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28017669/ (Mice, for now..)

I used to almost get a "lift" when I took my high doses of anacin and ibuprofen. The Astaxanthin seems to give me that same feeling. It's not a "high", but just like some unknown is carrying me, a bit. My big body, I am a bit overweight, really feels heavy and just full of fauking pain! I've got a bit of arthritis, but fibromyalgia and muscle dystonia from antipsychotics. I feel like I am able to walk much more.

I started taking n-acetylcysteine a few weeks ago to optimize my chances of reducing oxidative damage to the ligamentum flavum of the spine. I developed lumbar spinal stenosis. The pain can be excruciating. About a month ago, while visiting my fiancee, I screamed in pain with every step for about a week. A course of Prednisone did very little to help. Anti-inflammatories work better for me. I found naproxen to work better than ibuprofen. It helped enough that I could drive home to NJ. It's a 5-hour ride. I'm taking meloxicam (Mobic) now. It's doing a pretty good job.

What I learned with all of this is that NSAIDs increase lithium blood levels. I can't believe that I had never encountered this information during the last 40 years. I don't know if meloxicam is more potent in this regard than other NSAIDs.

Another thing I learned is that the efficacy of different NSAIDs for any one individual is not determined by kinetics. It is determined by the molecular structure of the COX enzyme binding site. Each drug has its own unique shape. The effectiveness of an NSAID is a function of how well it fits into the shape of an individual's enzyme binding site.

Is meloxicam any safer than the other NSAID's? (Naproxen, Ibuprofen)? In terms of heart attack/stroke risk? I have to take very high doses of these to work. Plus, I have major inflammation in my esophagus, from years of aspirin use. So bad that getting down food is sometimes uncomfortable. I wish I could find safer anti-inflammatory drugs/supplements. Seriously, I think I truly suffer from severe inflammation. I am trying to find affordable ketamine treatment. I also find magnesium biglycinate helps.

Prednisone *is* an anti-inflammatory, a corticosteroid -- an NSAID without the "N", so to speak. Is stronger than the endogenous cortisol.

I've been aware of it for some time, but for most of the time I've been familiar with lithium, I didn't know about it at all. I had read the prescribing information for lithium and it wasn't mentioned, or at least not as prominently as warranted given the prevalence of NSAID use.

How would you rate diclofenac (Voltaren)? I recall it helped with the kidney pain I experienced (with blood in the urine).

Yeah. I realized my mistake after I posted it. I was sure that you wouldn't allow such an error to go unnoticed. I have come to expect that of you. This is a good thing. In fact, I am counting on it!
