It looks like you are on the way to recovery. This confirms my theory that you should keep an open mind about what might help you. How do you feel physically? Any malaise?

What about taking these systemically? Maybe on the inside they will help, too?

I wonder if these two substances would help you (also psychologically) if taken by mouth. Ontop of applying them to your skin. Just a thought. Only if they mix with your meds though.

No malaise, but my moods started to improve around the same time as the rash. It's really bizarre. And yes, you're right. Healing can come from many different sources (some not what you expect). There could be a common denominator (i.e. some inflammatory condition). I don't know. I'm not saying my mood is going to stay good (as I have had mood problems long before getting this rash).

Yes, I started taking ginger root internally again fairly recently. I find it acts as a mood stabilizer. It has some serotonergic action (5-ht1a agonist, 5-ht3 antagonism, mild MAOI) inhibition of calcium channels, and of course an anti-inflammatory.

It's almost there. All the redness, itching and burning is gone. The skin is a bit discolored but, it may just be a layer of dead skin. Fingers crossed.

Maybe your mood improved because your skin absorbed substances.

I've been getting small areas of rashes myself underarms and small areas. I think have no idea if true that could be an allergy to anything with elastic in it. I have been using the medical strength cortisone cream. Rx'd by dermatologist a few years ago. Sweat is another suspicion. But with yours on your legs that couldn't apply. Wish there was a way to check inflammation inside the body. Since age is a factor for myself now. I even wondered if a strange version of Covid which is definitely grasping at straws.

Yeah, I was between doctors. I was afraid it was a fungal infection and that I would need oral antifungals (possibly requiring an alteration of my psychiatric meds).
Yes, the skin can absorb many substances. It is possible that some of the ginger was absorbed through my skin (?).
Or perhaps inflammation in the skin was passing into the bloodstream. I have no idea, it's way above my pay grade.

Link your knowledge is to be envied. I wonder what a search on ginger root and inflammation of the skin can it go systemic would reveal?

Well, I know certain parts of my skin were definitely inflamed and/or infected. The shin bone was spongey. When I pressed down on my shin, it would actually leave an indentation. The dermatologist said that this was due to inflammation getting deeper.
I have no idea how it got so bad. My moods were so bad I just thought that nothing could help.
Thanks for your feedback.

I think it is outrageous that your doctor can deny you blood tests if you pay them.

Hey Link,
The improvement is huge. Amazing to see.
Did the improve start only after seeing the dermatologist who said it was a form of eczema/dematitis?
I wondered how much the condition was exacerbated by the anxiety of feeling you had an untreated spreading infection? Just a thought.
I think you may have some post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in parts, but it should fade over time.
RE the tan, some types of eczema respond well to UV radiation, which suppresses the local immune response in the inflammed skin. Have you been exposing it to the sun a lot more because you do also look much more tanned than before? Some eczema patients are treating in UV booths at the hospital. It's also used in psoriasis. Far less than it used to be before there was more choice of medication, but some ppl respond best to UV.
The best type of phototherapy for eczema/dermatitis is typically narrow band UV-B treatment. Sunbeds are mainly UVA, which is generally less useful in eczema. PUVA therapy - oral psoralen with UV-A, is more used in psoriasis.
Around 70% of eczema patients are responsive to the narrow band UV-B machine.... but the sun also makes a difference.

No. It started to improve about 2 weeks before seeing the dermatologist. I had started applying the ginger root and coconut oil about a week prior to that. I had been giving it sun exposure (with perhaps some improvement there too, although a bit less dramatic).
>I wondered how much the condition was >exacerbated by the anxiety of feeling you had an >untreated spreading infection? Just a thought.
Yes possibly. It has been with me for about 2-3 years (to varying extents). The most recent outbreak occurred this spring. Thinking back, there certainly could be a correlation with anxiety.
>I think you may have some post-inflammatory >hyperpigmentation in parts, but it should fade >over time.
Hopefully. What got me was the way it started to bore deeper in to my skin. I had no idea this could be a symptom of eczema.

When I started putting on the ginger / coconut oil, it literally began improving within days. The weeping stopped, the yellow tinge parts just started falling off.
Thanks for the feedback. I still haven't had to use any steroids and the improvement seems to be continuing.

Hi Link,
Is the ginger in coconut oil a commercially prepared product?

No, I just purchased organic (not that it likely matters) ginger root spice and mixed a liberal amount of this with coconut oil (specifically MCT oil - with ~50% caprylic acid). The first day there was a tiny bit of pain in applying (more sensed as heat). On the 2nd day there was no discomfort in applying.
