Ketamine Treatment of Major Depression

Posted by mrm48013601 on June 8, 2020, at 16:21:38

Please excuse for me if a post, or posts, have already been made similar this one.

I have suffered from major depression my entire adult life. My primary symptom is a lack of energy, a fatigue so overwhelming that it is often difficult for me to get out of bed.

I have been on virtually every prescription anti-depressant in the Western word (I'm now on 80 mg of Parnate) and combinations thereof.

Can anyone describe their experiences with Ketamine Treatment for major depression?

All responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I am also interested. Especially the nasal spray seems kinda interesting.

I would also like to know. I am due to go on a trial of oral Ketamine in the form of tablets. When I get back to the UK, if it hasn't worked I will try Ketamine infusions. I'm in Australia at the moment and they have no infusion clinics.

Someone I know who has been treatment-resistant did well for awhile using intranasal ketamine taken about every 5 days. She was visibly improved. She has since decided to try Trintellix (vortioxetine). I don't why she was unhappy with ketamine.

I tried intranasal ketamine every day for two weeks. I felt nothing, but I question the quality of the compounding pharmacy and the dosage being too low. If you don't respond to intranasal ketamine, you can still go on to respond to IV treatment.

If you haven't tried Trintellix yet, it might be worth taking a look at. It is looked upon favorably by Andrew Nierenberg at Harvard / Mass General for treatment-resistance. I did not react well to it, but I wouldn't generalize that to everyone else. I have had bad reactions to other drugs as well.

Dear Scott:

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate it. My psychiatrist has referred me to two different specialists in the area who are more specialized than he in the administration of Ketamine.

To be honest with you, though, I'm still not settled on whether or not to try it. I'm going to continue speaking with my psychiatrist about trying to augment the Parnate.

About Trintellix: I was on it some time back and it did nothing for me.

Thanks again.

I had 13 Ketamine infusions And they did work initially rhen didnt work quite as well. I went back on Nardil during the treatments due to continued Suicidal ideation. I believe they helped me and if necessary would do it again. You have to find an expert not just a clinic run by an anesthesiologist doing it for financial reasons. My Ketamine doctor is Lori Calabrese in CT. She is a member of the National Ketamine Assn and she attends meetings several times a year and she speaks on her practice and outcomes for PT success.
For many Ketamine is a game changer. I felt I had nothing to lose And much to gain. It is scary the first few times but then it becomes easier to tolerate. A disassociate experience is very uncomfortable For many to go through.

Ketamine was not a miracle drug for me but a subtle help that I realized a couple of weeks later.
Have you tried Provigil for your fatigue?
