Bupropion and (social) Anxiety

Posted by Lamdage22 on September 29, 2019, at 9:42:24

So I have come across this study that says bupropion can actually be useful for social phobia. My experience is that I did NOT have more anxiety while on Wellbutrin.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11091936

Is bupropion prone to poopout?

What are you guys thinking? Please don't go away and always come back here. :)

I don't have a feel for bupropion as I haven't taken it. However, there are studies suggesting that it can be good for anxiety. At some point I would like to try it as I seem to do better with some of the atypical antidepressants.

it makes things a little bit more intresting, its like a cup of coffee antidepressant, but it mainly works on norephinprhine, it does work on dopamine but not to the exent of NE. People with anxiety disorders it can exascbate them, bupropion is mild stimulant, even though its classfied as a antidepressant. I've been up 450mg and definly noticed more alertness and awakeness, makes things a bit intresting. But it's not classfied for social anxiety, because it is prone to make anxiety. People with low energy depression usally benefit for it, it gives a bit of a kick. You could try it, and see what happens. Usally they start at 150mg xl but they have other relase mechanism such as wellbutrin sr, the XL form lasts all day, and also Apenzine lasts all day.

ask your doctor what they think

I would think that the dopamine boost boosts self-confidence... When I was on it I wasn't anxious because I was less depressed. I am really interested in what my psychiatrist will say tomorrow.

bupropion is a cup of coffee AD, but it doenst effect to the extent of significant as methyphenidate. When i was high school they put me on wellbutrin 300mg XL, every day i would go to class and be in sluggish sleepy state, and also other high schoolers too, but then after a while i noticed i was slightly more awake or alert, and started assigneents with some motivation. But .. again its not like amphetamine or methyphendiate.

hope your doctor made the right choice when you see him, maybe update here

hi. i was on 400mgs wellbutrin sr, on top of abilify. and...

it's OK. didn't do much for my looping thoughts (I'm now on Prozac, for better or for worse..), but it did lift my spirits a bit and help with concentration. discontinuation was a breeze; I stopped it, slept more for a couple days, dealt with a touch of melancholy, and that was it.

honestly, with the high dose neuroleptic on board in your situation, i'd all but beg for a little bit of Ritalin. fun fact: back in the day, Ritalin was advertised (to shrinks, not the public) as a quick and easy mood lift...and it was also pushed to help counteract sedation from the old school antipsychotics (usually phenothiazines, such as Thorazine).

if you have a lot of anger, aggression, active psychosis...not a good idea. wellbutrin wouldn't be either, honestly. but, at least with Ritalin, it'd be a quick lift...and if you hated it, its easy to discontinue...just stop.

im not trying to push uppers on you, but with the seizure risk from wellbutrin + everything else you're on...

ritalin, maybe provigil (I think it has some rough adverse effects + drug-drug interactions, too...), perhaps Mirapex...

but not so much wellbutrin. just a personal, completely and totally and thoroughly un-professional guess-timate.

:-)

You are right Christempowered,

it's already too much as it is. I really want to do depth psychology therapy. I can start sometime soon. I just need to find someone who is willing to do it and has some experience treating people that are prone to psychosis.

Maybe that is the way to go more so than meds!

Hope you are ok.

when i was 17, i was precribed wellbutrin to add on to adderall, i was moved up to 300mg XL, and it did ... when in first period class where everyone is sleepy and dont want to do the assginments, i noticed buproion made a bit more alert and motivated to do the assignments, but it's nothing like the adderall feeling. Also i doubled the dose to 650mg, i was sitting at denny's resturant all of a sudden i felt this wierd, frozen, siezure like feeling. I didnt have one, but the effect was .... i never did that again, i was thinking that if increase buproion to 600mg, it would have a strong dopamine effect, or euphoric.....no no no, i sat there trying to act normal with friends and this siezure feeling coming on was really scary, and plus i had to deal with it all day.

450mg XL is the highest recommended dose, anything above that triples the siezure effect, i don't know how to describe it in medical terms. But it was very unpleasant and scary.

There is a popular or was popular combincation with prozac and wellbutrin combined, i knew people who where on it and said it help them in mood and motivation. I stopped wellbutrin becauser i had it with the anxixety it gave me

just work with your doctor and find a solution to benefit

I've been taking bupropion sr since 2003, seems just as effective. Infact I've been taking half what I started on. 400 down to 200. It makes me anxious. Not sure about the socially part. Belive it or not I've found weed and CBD really helpfull for social anxiety. cbd really good for anxiety as well. bupropion may also make social anxiety worse. But is really good for energy and depression. Also keeps me from smoking too much. 1-2 ciggs a day.
