After about 14 days of hell (quitting Lexapro cold turkey), I will be starting Nardil tomorrow and I'm pretty nervous about it. The dietary restrictions seem to be a little inconvenient, but manageable. And when Nardil seems to work, it really works well. My worries come in because what if this not the medication for me? Switching between SSRIs was always miserable but, to have to come off Lexapro and only rely on Klonopin was terrifying. I'm not sure I could stop Nardil for an extended period of time to back on an SSRI. (And my instincts tell me that after 25+ years on many, many SSRIs they're not going to do the trick anymore. So maybe switching to something else like Parnate wouldn't be so bad. (That's assuming the Nardil works.
I've read mostly negative experiences about Nardil Mostly it's issues with weight gain, and I"m going to try and combat that with a low carb diet and lots of exercise. (Assuming I have energy for that. Since stopping Lexapro I've been sleeping 12 hours each day, and I don't feel well.)
I also have a third part question. Has anyone done inpatient treatment to have professionals help with your medication management? I keep toying with the idea, but it sounds expensive and I'd have to miss a lot of work.I can't do that if I won't see positive results.
Anyway, more than anything, I could use some encouragement about starting Nardil tomorrow. Thank you!

Hey,
you could try to counteract the weightgain with Metformin. You need to have regular kindey and liver checks but other than that its pretty awesome.
Good luck with Nardil

The weight gain from Nardil is relatively mild compared with what i take now (Signature). Thanks to Metformin am not obese, but i still have a few pounds too much.

Thanks Lamdage. I appreciate your support, and if I don't like what I see on my scale, I'll definitely look into Metformin.

Good luck! I wish you well. Will you need to give up coffee?

From what I've read, a small amount of coffee is alright. (I think no more than two 8 oz cups.) I don't mind cutting back, but stopping altogether would have been brutal! Thanks for wishing me luck. So far it's been a bit of a rollercoaster, and I've got my fingers crossed things even out of over the next couple of weeks.

Good luck! It works very well in most cases. I've added a small dose of Lithium to my cocktail and that seems to have kicked my Nardil in again.
I just wanted to second the Metformin suggestion if your pdoc will prescribe it. I start Metformin at the same time I started Nardil (Jan 2018) and have only gained about 7lbs. That bit came on fairly quick (water weight?) but I've been stable for the last 4 or 5 months now....
I hope my recent posts didn't discourage you at all. I was on the same medicines for 8yrs and then had to switch. My issues are probably related more to that (w/d?) than Nardil itself.
Keep us posted on how it goes!

Cool. Double thumbs up. Hoping for it to be a good experience for you.
I had experience with Parnate.
I am a fan of the MAOIs. I think they are extremely under-utilized. Yeah the diet thing is tricky but so is every other healthy diet out there. Any good diet has got a fair amount of discipline involved with it.
