Thinking of switching AD, keep researching & researching and data re side/adverse affects and effectiveness all over the map, post-marketing studies usually small and skimpy, lots of discussion of bias, limited data, file drawer effect, etc.
Interested in hearing from those who did, and did not, experience increased agitation/anxiety or other SEs after starting an AD, which ones, if you pushed through it for a while, how long it lasted, etc.
Realize everyone reacts differently. Still, first-hand experiences are additional data. Thanks!

hi. celexa was OK. zoloft was a nightmare. paxil shut down my emotions, and tapering was loads of trouble.
wellbutrin was OK, except for here and there during dosage increases...then it wasn't so OK. tapering was easy.maybe antidepressants just aren't for you? i read a psychopharmacologist...he wrote that ssri drugs are sort of like one variant of the "goof balls" of yesteryear, the ones that contained a stimulant and a low dose tranquilizer/neuroleptic. the idea is...
flatten emotions a bit (all antidepressants reduce frontal lobe activity) and revv up energy levels. something like that.
maybe surmontil? its sedating, supposed to be good for anxiety and agitation. not a good idea if you're suicidal, of course.
adding buspar helps some people. sorry about all this.

wellbutrin made me have bad agitation, when i was first put on it i noticed I was bit more attentive in class, slightly improved attention and motive, but later on i started having anxiety on it, its good in its own way - its kinda like a cup of coffee antidepressant, but i kinda just stay clear of bupropion
fluoxetine have no agitation on it, prozac was first med that helped with depression, felt slightly better, and have a mindset that is normal. When i was off ad's i see things in depressing way. If don't take prozac will notice major drop in seeing life normal. I have to say prozac did help me see life better, it keeps me from falling into deep depression.

When I start a new AD, it makes me feel agitated. (This has been the case for me with Prozac, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Paxil, Trintellix, and a handful of others.) These days, I also take Klonopin (current meds are 10 mg of Lexapro - I'm tapering off so I can try an MAOI, and 1 mg of Klonopin 2 times per day). I think the Klonopin really helps with agitation from new medications and agitation in general.
This is the end of the thread.
