instant sleep med

Posted by baseball55 on January 15, 2015, at 20:22:45

The week after next, I am undergoing a major schedule change that will require me to get to sleep 3-4 hours before my usual bedtime.
My p-doc is willing to be helpful here, but what should I ask him for? I just need a week of some kind of strong sedative to put me out 3-4 hours earlier than usual.

Valium? Seroquel? Haldol?

Can you start the process now and work into it. Would melatonin help? Phillipa

a well known one that was vary popular in the 80's was halcion, but it puts you to sleep quicky but it has a vary short half life, but they don't use it much like they did back then

you can ask the doctor, they use it for jet lag, inducing sleep fast

Hi, the problem with all these meds is that they will give you rebound insomnia when you stop them. Also, any benzos are going to prevent you from getting restful sleep, so even though you may be falling asleep sooner, you will feel like you have slept very little. If the goal is just to fall asleep sooner and you aren't tolerant to benzos yet, I would go with a benzo because the rebound insomnia won't be as bad if you are taking a small dose.

one thing i think would really help, and im not trying to plug up the respond comments, but Prosom, it lasts a while, so it won't wear off and you wake up with benzo withdrawl anxiety, halcion gets to sleep quick, but it wears off too quick, so...

Prosom, ask your doctor about that, good for sleep and keeping you asleep

Of those 3 I would probably go with seroquel. It acts fast and does not stay in your system that long, so you can wake up next day. Plus the other poster said benzos will not give restfull sleep. I don't think haldol is supposed to be that sedating. Personaly I take zyprexa and perphenazine. the p acts in a few hours, and wears off in 9. z is longer acting.

I'd say either Valium or Restoril (temazepam).

I would personally avoid any antipsychotic. You could use Lunesta, Ambien, Valium or Restoril. Melatonin may be mildly useful.

Unless you have a serious mood disorder, I would stay right away from psychotropic drugs. You would be absolutely crazy to start. Have you not read the sad stories of all the desperate people on this and other message boards? What is your diagnosis?

As I said, if you read the post, I am looking to take something for a few days only.

I have a combo that works great for many things. For let me introduce it,now GABAPENTIN is known to be a wash,HOWEVER this is usualy monotherapy with it,also docs stay low with the dose.

I find however it has a POWERFUL synergy at high doses of at least one 800 mg tab to even two and a half tabs with a benzo mainly klonopin. This combo works great for maniac outburts and for the most horrid insomnia.
