Switching meds

Hi,

Does switching from zoloft 50 mg to celexa 20 mg necessitate getting off the zoloft first?

Thanks.

Hi Shelley,
I would check with your doctor on this if you are worried. Some doctors are comfortable with cross tapers, whereas others prefer that you taper off the previous medication first. It all depends on the individual patient, as well as any other meds you are taking.

Good luck with the Celexa

Docs always just went from one to the other with me but it's been a long time and things change so agree check first. Phillipa

Thank you both for your response.
I am hesitating about switching because the transition periods are extremely difficult for me physically. My GP supplies me with the ADs. I went off celexa due to severe weakness. The zoloft isn't much different but at least it has a mild dopaminergic effect which makes it a bit more tolerable. That also has its drawbacks because I am schizoaffective and cannot tolerate APs. The zoloft makes it a little difficult to follow conversations. I would like to consult with a pdoc but need to be able to concentrate more in order to get the most out of the appointment. However, the thought of going back to celexa for that purpose, with everything it involves, leaves me putting off everything...

No. You can cross taper between the two medications.
