long term anticonvulsant side effects?

Posted by Christ_empowered on August 20, 2014, at 8:07:06

I don't take lithium. I respond better to Trileptal and now a low dose of Lamictal, also.

What sort of long term side effects can I anticipate? I also take a full dose of Abilify, so what sort of side effects can I expect with a neuroleptic on board?

Its very difficult to say what the long term side effects may be.

Make sure you get routine kidney / liver function tests. Long term trileptal side effects are probably similar to tegretol side effects.

You may have some cognitive side effects, but I don't know if these stabilize with time.

Most adverse effects of Lamictal and Trileptal are evidence within the first few weeks of treatment. I would not particularly anticipate anything new to emerge with these two drugs.

You may want to check your electrolytes at some point. Trileptal can cause hyponatremia.

I've been on Lamictal for I think 7 years and I haven't had any problems. There's something in the PI about lamotrigine binding to melanin tissue in the eye. "the long term effects of this are unknown"
