Hi All:
We are trying to use Ritalin to offset the staring-at-the-walls-all-day apathy I am getting on the Brintellix. 10 mg ER is working amazingly well, but the problem is I cannot wake up in the morning to save my life! I've missed work twice.
I've taken ritalin before and I don't remember this being a problem...that was when mixed with Celexa however.
Is this what happens as your body becomes addicted to stimulants?? Perhaps my sleep isn't good (although getting to sleep is easy) because when I take Ambien it is less of a problem.
Thanks,

I'm glad to hear the Ritalin is working for you!
I wouldn't use the word "addicted" to describe your situation. Stimulants typically increase energy, so naturally you will have less energy when off the Ritalin. Likewise, your blood level of Ritalin should be at its lowest point just before you take it, which happens to be the morning in your case.
Is it that you aren't waking up or that you're having trouble getting out of bed and up and going?
If the latter, try setting an alarm 15-30 minutes before you would normally get up, and take the Ritalin immediately when it goes off. You can go back to bed, and if you time it so the Ritalin will have kicked in by the time your regular alarm goes off, that might help you get going.
Used to do that when I first started taking stimulants for ADHD.

Hi, does the ritalin make you stay asleep or are you just awake lying in bed. If it keeps you asleep, maybe I can try it for insomnia.

It's DEFINITELY not the laying in bed unmotivated thing. The Brintellix does that :)
No I'm talking about sleeping so hard through the alarm that I don't even hear it. Groggy as hell.
I've only been taking 10 mgs ER maybe 5 days a week, and it's only on the days after I take it.
I'm guessing its some kind of dopamine withdrawl?

This is the end of the thread.
