When someone says their Depression didn't respond to an AD, do they mean they felt no effects at all from that antidepressant? Or do they mean they felt no *beneficial* effects from that Med? And that perhaps all they experienced were side effects.
I'm on a low dose of Lexapro, 5mg, for 2 weeks now. I haven't taken an AD in a while, but the last 2 that I took (Tianeptine and Prozac, both kicked in on the 10th day. But now I'm on my 14th day of Lexapro and even though about 30 minutes after taking it for a few minutes I feel like a weight has been taken off my emotions, this only lasts for a few minutes and I've not actually felt the actual effect of it, such as the actual antidepressant effect. I'm expecting a numbing effect on my emotions, and I feel that's what I need at the moment to sort of give my dopamine system a rest after some long-term detrimental effects I've experienced from Mirapex

Hi Phillipa, how long have you been taking Lexapro? I'm actually supposed to be on 10mgs, but I noticed they made a 5mg dose, so I figured I'd start out taking the lowest dose.

Try raising the dose maybe?
With prior SSRI experience, they don't tend to work the same as time goes on. Might take more time.

5mg Lexapro is a sensible starting dose for anyone who is known to be sensitive to the side effects of SSRIs, or anyone who hasn't taken an SSRI before (and therefore the risk of side effects is unknown)... but 5mg isn't usually an optimal dose. I suggest increasing to 10mg/day, assuming you are tolerating it well. If you find 10mg makes you feel too numb, you could decrease back to 5mg for a couple of weeks and then stop, in order to try a non-SSRI antidepressant instead.

I have found Lexapro to work quickly. Perhaps you should ask you pdoc whether it is time to up the dose. good luck
