Klonopin takes longer to kick in. When I took it (2 doses, about 8-12 hours apart), it would kinda kick in after 20mins and then completely after 1 hour. Made PRN impossible.

Ativan kicks in fast and doesn't last as long. I think daylong sedation requires 3 or 4 doses vs 2 for Klonopin. Its also high potency, but I think not quite as a high potency as Klonopin is.

Klonopin is apparently notorious for causing or worsening depression. That said, I read that all BZDs can cause depression. You can get anxiety in-between doses on any benzo, but since Ativan doesn't last as long, its probably more of an issue.

I've read that shorter acting benzos, over the long haul, sometimes result in more dosage increases. I don't know if that's true or not...seems like plenty of people have to ramp up Klonopin, too.

Good luck!

what would you consider a high daily dose of Ativan......dr. gives me 3 daily...use 1.5 to sleep and 1 mg during day....worrying about going up to high.....not addicted...wondering about tolerance

if its just a 1-4 weeks thing, I wouldn't stress out. Take it as needed (Ativan is great as needed) and then when it's time to stop, do a gradual taper. Probably not a big deal.

Issues with Ativan and other benzos usually pop up after prolonged use. Some people take benzos everyday for decades and its fine. Some people go through hell after 1 year or so. Depends.

I personally LOVE Klonopin, but I cannot use it during the day (makes me sleepy and that is already one of my complaints from my depression).

I take .5mgs about 30 minutes before bed to ease my racing thoughts. If it's really bad, I will take 1mgs. I usually do not take anything on the weekends to give myself a break from it so I don't become use to it and need more for effect.

I do not see why not. Just start slow. See if .5mgs will do it for you. You can always go up. I like how it is long lasting and doesn't smack you down like xanax does.

"I usually start with Klonopin if there are also racing thoughts or obsessing." This is from askdrjones.com I believe klonopin helps tremendously with racing thoughts, esp at bedtime.

I shouldve said it makes me tired at night-good, but in the morning when i awake, i still feel tired. I have my coffee, green tea, chocolate and seems to help. I dont feel the need to nap so i must not be tired all day, and I hike 4 mi a day. It does still control racing thoughts. I wish u could feel that ahhh feeling everynight, but then that may be why some take too much. I know better and will not go down that road.
