It's been awhile since I've been on the site. I've tried just about
everything you can think of. My diagnosis is bipolar 1. I'm currently taking 25 mg of clozapine and 75 mg of lamictal. Ive been off work and I'm struggling big time with depression and racing thoughts. I'm on small doses of both drugs and they don't seem to be helping at all. Any suggestions?

>Markwell,
You have asked for suggestions here. The drugs that you are taking could cause death. And by taking them together, the adverse effects could be increased {exponentially}. These include seizure and heart related adverse events.
The incidence of death from clozapine is huge, statistically that is.
I am prevented from posting a lot of facts here due to the prohibitions posted to me here by Mr Hsiung, that I think could save your life, and the lives of readers here, or prevent a life-ruining condition. Her is link showing the statistics concerning death just with Clozapine alone. The combination wit Lamictal changes the statistics.

Hi sorry you are having a hard time. Would raising the doses help? As you say small doses? As for other meds will leave that to the experts. But know I'm thinking of you. Seems though the lamictal is very low is there a reason why? Phillipa

I am uncertain as to why you have posted this here. I am asking that parents that are trying to make a more-informed decision as to drug their child in collaboration with a psychiatrist/doctor, or to drug themselves or another loved one, to take heed that members here are allowed to post to take drugs that could kil you or give you a life-running condition or addiction and to go further, I am prohibited from posting facts here that ZI think could save your life or the life of your child or other people in your life. Readers be advised that a lot can be seen on the administrative board to help you understand hat I am trying to do here and the prohibitions to me that could keep me from posting what I think could save lives.
Here is a link that gives statistics from the FDA concerning taking Zyprexa together with Clozapine in relation to those taking that combination get diabetes, a life ruining condition that in itself could lead to blindness, amputations and death.

markwell, just fyi Lou's posts can seem 'trollish'.
as i'm sure you are aware, we are not MD's here. However, i have been off and on zyprexa for the last say 10 years or so. and have had very good luck with it. though have gained sign. weight at times. Others have not had such luck.
in terms of AP's it is more safe than the older ones.
it is known for tranquilizing effects. though depends totally on the person.
we all react differently to meds (and alternative therapies).if you have further questions. please feel free to continue this thread.
Best luck in finding something that helps.

I didn't get a message from you 10derheart. I've tried zypreza in the past without success. I'm at a loss on what to do. I am at a low dosage of both meds so maybe kicking them up a notch might help. I sleep pretty good with the clozapine and I tried 50 mg and could hardly get up. I think the therapeutic dose is 200mg. Maybe it's better at higher doses.

I know markwell, it was intended to be just a restoring of your subject line. I don't have anything of substance about meds to offer you, I'm afraid.
I and a couple other posters here sometimes post just to change your subject line *back* to what YOU started with, instead of leaving it the way Lou Pilder changes it. I strongly dislike and disagree with Lou's choice to change every subject line in every thread he posts on to something convenient for him.
It makes it harder - for me anyway - to follow conversations in threads when Lou makes the whole thread look this way. Some have asked him kindly not to do this, but he continues on. I am also sorry you have to see the word 'death' inserted as a response from Lou. He believes this type of posting is helpful. {shrug}
I'm sorry to distract from your point, but it was meant to be a show of support of your right to freely post a thread with a subject line you choose and not have it wiped away.
I realize this is a side issue, and my post does nothing to help you in your distress :-(

Thank you for posting the article from Forbes concerning the writer who overcame depression.
In his story, he cites Dr. Mark Hayman.
Here is a post by me from the past where I asked readers to see a video by DR Hayman.

Has anyone tried clozapine for depression? How about lamictal? I'd appreciate any input.

You might have more luck treating bipolar 1 depression with a dosage of Lamictal at or above 200 mg/day. However, Lamictal may not help with mania. Have you tried combining lithium with higher dosages of Lamictal? Clozapine is generally given at dosages of 300 mg/day or higher.
Latuda (lurasidone) is an interesting drug for bipolar depression.

try zyprexa. Thats my magic drug for racing thoughts and being functional and getting to work. I take 15mg now. I'm also scizoaffective, PTSD, anxiety, and zyprexa is the only drug that helps all that.

If zyprexa does not work you could try depakote. What dose of zyprexa did you try? It can't be a low one, for me. I've been taking it for 15 years now in the range of 10-20mg.
