Yeah I've talked about Metformin. I weighed 257 six weeks ago, now 242. That's 15 pounds!!
This is the solution for many, many people and it's backed up by many studies.
It's a well tolerated med and, to me, is a no brainer to try.
Now that I'm losing weight, lower everyday, I eat less because the results are in and I'm not that hungry.
Talk to your doc about it and when you see him bring in studies that say, this is the right thing to do, diabetes or not.
Again this was my idea and after my doctor reading up on it he completely agreed.
Not trying to tell anyone here how to run their life but if you are heavy and headed for diabetes this stuff can stop that too.
Can't control your appetite, Metformin works there too.
Or you can stay obese without trying a thing, welcome more obesity.
Check it if you want or stay like you are, I'm just passing this along.
It's a success story but my first goal is 220. Next will be 210 and I can live with that or get to 200. The weight I've lost is not pie in the sky b*llsh*t.
Carrying all that weight could lead to heart attack, stroke, joints giving out, etc. These could well kill you before any mental illness can.
Please think it over. If you don't want to, that's your business.
good luck!!!

Congratulations. That's a lot of weight to lose in a short time. Now fill some water jugs with that weight and carry them and you will instantly know what it felt like when part of you body. Phillipa

congrats, phil. that's pretty awesome.
does the med work by curbing cravings? it's good to know there's something to address the weight gain from overeating caused by psych meds. my weight is currently normal, but i just started seroquel to sleep at night and i'm already eating like a monster. i'm naturally thin, but also one of those people who gains 20 pounds in a hot minute when i'm taking any psych med that causes weight gain (remeron, neurontin, AAPs. lithium--i puff right up).
glad to hear there's a solution.

I've been getting better sleep with Seroquel too. And, it's augmenting my ADs (seemingly, for now anyway). That said, I've been craving sweets like crazy, so I need to watch what I eat.

Seroquel is a sledgehammer for sleep.

I concur. When I was in my recent, extremely long funk, it did nothing for me; now that I'm doing better, it's working for sleep and has an antidepressant effect for me, something I never experienced with it before.

Hi Phillipa-
It's weird--I never had much success with Seroquel until now. I'm taking 100mg before bedtime, and so far, so good.

I like Seroquel but the SE's were winning.
Phil bragging(yawn)
So, in under 2 months, I've lost *20 pounds* using Metformin. No exercise...yet.
My back is better using Benztropine.
And I guess weight loss reversed a growing problem with BP which is now 125/75.***Every problem has a solution***Quitting isn't a solution.
