dead ends and limits

Posted by poser938 on February 26, 2013, at 13:54:45

I tried not to write too much.

I just keep getting more dysfunctional as my psychitrist/former psychiatrist just dropped me. She had her secretary email me to tell me my case is above her expertise and just as the compounding pharmacist finally got the formula for intravenous cyproheptadine. We have been working with oral cyproheptadine compounded 10 pills worth into 1 pill. And... yes this is going to sound crazy.. but I had to work up to around to about 17 pills worth by slowly letting my body/brain get tolerant to the antihistamine effect. It didn't work out because I would keep getting constipated and just scared to take that much. The intravenous form would have avoided the constipation side effect.

Anyways.. its about to complicate for me to explain fully what the situation is, but my psychiatrist and I kept could only see cyproheptadine as being able to help me. I had worked up to that dose over about 6 months. I started out taking 1 pill and I noticed my mood ever so slightly improving, it stopped helping after 2 days so I raised the dose then my mood got better and better ovet 6 months. But even though2 years later much of its effect has very slowly gone away, my tolerance to it has not gone away.

Anyways, I could keep writing all day because its so complicated. Cyproheptadine has been fixing the permanent effect had on me. Mirapex basically told my brain to stop making its own dopamine. I have tried normal dopmine increasing meds like adderall, ritalin and I could feel no effect from them. I also tried a few antiosychotics and I can't feel their effect either.

Ther ar no other meds thast will be able to help me. I read and read and read hoping to find something, but I can't find anything. I'm lost and almost hopeless. My brother is in the airforce and is moving back and I may start staying with him. He's going to try claiming me as a dependant and try getting me on his insurance. This might make me abe to stay at the vanderbilt psychiatric hospital, but I don't know if they will be able to do anything to help me. The only thing I can think of is them helping me with cyproheptdine. Injecting it for me and making sure I am able to tolerate the high dose

IS know I wrote a lot...

I don't think it would be wise, based on your story and history, to continue down the psychiatric route as your primary weapon. You've already proven that is not the right approach for whatever is causing your symptoms. Why waste more of your life? Especially when there are so many other things you can do to improve symptoms and quality of life?

The problem is, most of us get stuck in the merri-go-round of pdocs and we accidentally, unknowingly, close off the entire rest of the earth's ability to heal us. We stop learning, we stop researching, or we never even get started in the first place. It's a common journey for most of us including me. And a sad fact.

Here's my story, long made short. Severe depression over 15 years, 15 specialists mostly pdocs, $35,000 total spent, backpack stuffed with failed meds, failed ECT. I'm still not in remission, but what was it that finally got me out of that deep dark endless dungeon? Herbal strategies of anti-inflammation, anti toxins, and anti-microbials. Notice....none of them have anything to do with psychiatry, but they accomplished what psychiatry could not.

My depression was caused by lyme disease. 15 specialists failed to make the diagnosis. A Nurse Practitioner blew them all in the weeds and figured it out. She basically saved my life with what was actually obvious clues right in front of us the entire time.

Since then I have had a Lyme Literate MD, and he says some of his patients have only one symptom....depression, and he sees them get better with antibiotics and temporary low doses of ADs.

Most lyme patients have depression as a top symptom. Only 1 person in 10 who has lyme is diagnosed as such. Think about that.

Now before anyone gets wild and says oh there goes blueberry with the lyme stuff again, seriously, think about the paragraph before this one. And now, take it a step further....my example is only one of maybe a dozen different scenarios I could share with you that cause depression. And psych drugs are useless against most of them.

So when you say dead ends and limits, I say wrong.

I have been taking mac root for 12 days now, it helps but slightly. One thing it has done away with is the redness I had around my eyes. I was looking like I hadn't been sleeping any. I'm hoping more effects will kick in after a few weeks.

But I know cyproheptadine can fix for the most part what's wrong with me. It fixe what adderal did to me in the past. Adderall did the same thing mirapex did, though in the past it worked faster.

Cyproheptadine blocks the serotonin receotors and in turn disinhibits dopamine synthesis.

And yes, I can't of a single pychychitric drug (except cyproheptadine) I have read sooo much about them and how they work. The term "antidepressant" just sounds good. But alli see are limits when it comes to them. 50 years from now we might have a better grasp on how to heal someones brain, but were not there yet.

Can i suggest that you try mirtazapine, start off at 15mg at night, and build up to 45mg at night over 2 weeks, it has the same actions as cyproheptadine (5HT2 and HT3 antagonism) but is more potent. it also has a couple of other actions that will be usefull to you that cyproheptadine lacks

Its well worth a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain

Friends,
It is written here,[...you have nothing to lose and everything to gain...].
Friends, The drug could kill you. Would you then lose everything?

I have read a bit about mirtazapine in the past, but you have brought it more to my attention. And I am really considering it.

The most significant side effect is dorwsiness, which passes off over a couple of weeks.

Take 15mg at night for a week, then 30mg at night for a week, then 45mg at night for a week.

You should feel the benifits quite quickly after you reach the higher doses
