When I was in the hospital for 6 days of raging fever I never saw one nurse smile and a few were *******. Zyprexa caused it and they had to know the meds I was on. Not until reading this article did I snap, maybe I was just a 'mental' patient to them. I'm pretty easy to get along with esp IRL.

>That comment popped out at me too. A few years ago I was in the hospital twice within a few months. One was for a physical illness, one for mental illness. Same hospital. In both cases the nurses were very nice and professional. I can't say the same for the doctors and other hospital staff. herpills

I was surprised by the nurses. This hospital is one of two trauma centers in Austin area so you think it would be top notch.
An example: a nurse would come in in the morning and start ripping on the IV in the back of my hand saying, what did you DO to this? I don't know bitch I was asleep. BTW, good morning to you too.

I've been in the hospital three or four times for mental illness and three or four times for physical illness. The psych nurses were wonderful. Mostly older, very experienced, very committed to what they were doing. The regular nurses were awful. Over-stressed, took forever to answer call bells then acted resentful for your having called them. They were mostly very young and all looked headed for major burnout within a few years.

The only cool part of the hospital was I was on the 7th floor. I could look out my window and see the LifeFlight helicopter taking off and landing. It was terrible that people needed it but that's reality.
Every time they landed they got patients in so fast that I never actually saw them doing it.I guess my nurses were burnt out, I know it must be brutal, but hey, one smile?
