I've done enough all-nighters for papers and exams in my time while on Adderall that my dopamine/catecholamine reserves are shot and run on fumes in-between Adderall dosing. I'm hoping L-Tyrosine Alpha-Ketoglutarate will help replenish my reserves, but so far I've only come across conjecture, and no long-term effects seem to be reported, either.
Does the stuff help dopamine re-grow, or merely act at the time of ingestion, bumping up dopamine/catecholamine temporarily and then saying sianara when it's done? And does it actually work? I wonder what happens when it's combined with dl-PA (phenylthylamine) (sp)....
studies? trip reports? It would be nice not to have to rely on Bronkaid (ephederine) just to get out of bed on days I'm not on Adderall. Although I'm switching docs, and hopefully my next doc will switch me to Vyvanse at 140mg.
My current doc won't give me more than 70mg, so I'm off it, even though 140mg=the 60mg of Adderall/day I'm on now, and my insurance's prior authorization covers up to 170mg/day... when I'm on Adderall, I re-dose too much for papers/exams, so I wind up being out of it before my next refill, and have terrible crashes.
When I took Vyvanse, I wouldn't take more than prescribed, because after 7AM, I risk not sleeping if I re-dose, and besides, it stops metabolizing after 200mg.

i've done this same thing when I was taking adderall around the clock after it exhaused my mind of dopamine....yes the tyrosine will give you some reserves but it won't do to where it feels like your brand new with nuerons, your mind has to get back full of its nuerotransmitter reserves through lots of sleep, and eating, but yes tyrosine will give you a dopamine feeling, but don't take too much...anything above 4000mg will cause near psychosis. I've already tried it...its not fun, like 2000-3000mg should pull dopamine back into gear. Go for it....also DL phenylalanine would be another good choice since its naturally linked to amphetamine. Also acylcarnitine too will help, go to a health food store and you will find tons of supplements that will increase mental function, just ask....
go for it dude! get those papers burnin!lol

Tyrosine is raw material to make dopamine. So the theory is that there will be a larger supply of dopamine with tyrosine supplementation.
The only scientific studies I am aware of were in the 1950s, where 2 studies show DLPA to be an effective antidepressant at around 150mg.
I've read a lot on the net in the last few years on tyrosine and dlpa, and read many posts at various blogs or forums. The basic summary I come away with is:
1. They can indeed work but which one, or combination, and what dose, vary widely from person to person. There is some trial and error and adjustments to maximize the possibility of a good outcome.
2. Some people find it poops out after a few weeks, some do not.
3. Some people only get side effects varying from tiredness to grumpiness to headaches and overstimulation.
