First let me clarify this is an upscale neighborhood. Ranges in age from elderly to young with babies. As we know mental illness doesn't care about money or where you live or who you are. But there is a serious situation going on in this neighborhood. It's not on my street and only heard of this this summer. Evidently this 40's somewhere age lady had been living with her parents. When moved here 7 years ago she jogged worked walked her golden retriever. Her Dad died two years ago advanced Parkinson's and forgot nor heard anything of them. Heard this summer this Daughter is paranoid schizophenic drinks and during last winter threw her Mother (elderly) into the street with her furniture. A neighbor let her stay with her. The Daughter moved to Charleston with dog. Mom moved in with another Daughter home went up for Sale. Next thing we see is the Schizoprenic Daugher is back, Took the home off market, had her dog with her. She told a neighbor someone was trying to posion her. She totally threw out all new rolls packaged of toilet paper, all the dog food, everything new that was left in the home. Has been living there with no furniture. Heard the dog barking till about 5 days ago. This person is driving. Stops the car sits and stares. In a trance. Imagine voices talking to her. She screamed at neighbors when they saw what she was throwing out and said get out of my garbage they did. Walking dogs one night she was sitting in the cars summer windows up. I decided to confront her friendly walked over said hi she said hi. I asked how the dog and her were she answered fine. I suggested she open the window of car as couldn't hear her she refused. Asked one more time refused and pointed at garage so continued walk with husband and dogs. End of street still sitting in car. This has gone one with me saying since no one sees the dog that she will end up killing the dog and could hurt someone if sees them as threat, or is dangerous driving. On no meds. Yesterday found out that a new neighbor next door saw the dog in the fenced in small yards we have saw her said is the dog alive looks dead. She dragged it by a leash into the home. Evidently someone called the family who showed up couldn't enter home stench was too bad. They must of though as was told they put a sheet over the dog which was infested with bugs and fleas. Got the dog into the female's car followed her to Animal ER and then left. The dog is dead and she's still there unmedicated. The family will do nothing and was told that nothing can be done about committing the lady so she can receive help before something worse happens. Lots of old ladies on that street have barricaded themselves in their homes. I can't intervene as heresay. Any advise? Thanks Phillipa

Have you called the police Philippa? You can give them the name of the Animal Hospital to help prove it happened and give them the address of the individual's home. They will certainly check it out. If nothing else, she has committed animal cruelty, which is a crime, and if she is an unmedicated schizophrenic they will most likely take her to the psychiatric hospital for treatment, especially if she has already committed a crime.
This sounds like a horrible thing to be happening right in your neighborhood. I hope things get worked out, and in the meantime, stay safe.

You have absolutely no proof that anyone "killed" a dog. You know that someone told you the dog had fleas and that it died. If the dog had been "killed" the vet would have reported it. It may have died of cancer for all you know.
If a bunch of gossips were going through my garbage I might yell at them to get out of it too
If little old ladies are barricading themselves in their home out of ignorance maybe you should too. Mentally ill people are less likely to be violent than people who aren't mentally ill.
I think given your attitude the best thing you could do is stay out of it.

That wasn't very kind. If you have a differing opinion you can certainly express it in a much nicer way.

Your local government would have a social work department i think - they might be the ebst port of call, they could come out and look at the situation, and call in appropriate agencies, the local mental hospital, the citys health department if conditions are unsanitary etc etc.

Email from across the street from this lady's home. Also talked to a dective today and he said until she harms either herself or another nothing can be done. Rest in email. Phillipa
It is true the dog died and no one knows when. Judy called someone on the block Sunday night and said Cookie had died. When they asked Judy when, she said she did not know, she was not watching the clock (we think it was earlier than she seems to imply). Sat afternoon, she was confronted after the backyard scene and she said the dog was fine. Then said the dog was tired. Then said the dog was sleeping. Then got confrontational and said get off my property or I will call the police. Neighbors called animal control who after 3 days came yesterday after the dog was taken away by Judy. Animal Control also went to the vet and the vet said he could not say how the dog died as she had not been a patient of his. Her sister and friend got the dog in Judys car. They followed her to the vet and saw Cookie being taken into the vet (the one nearby behind Goodwill). Ginny was with her sister but no one went into the vet but Judy. Judy returned home maybe 4 to 5 hours later. Judy has not harmed anyone or herself. A police officer has confirmed there is nothing anyone can do to have her committed unless she does. If anyone sees anything and wants to call the police, please do. I heard nothing about the stench or fleas but the people who went in the house did not want to discuss it and said it was a horrible experience. No one would want to describe. If Maddie told you, she was not in the house. Her sister could have told Maddie but I dont know that. And it is best we drop the dog subject now and move on and if anything happens with Judy that we can do anything about, then we should. Otherwise, something else could happen like a foreclosure if her bills are not paid (I dont know any status on that, only speculation that they might not be). I think that is all I know.
Her poor mother has to hear about the dog whom she loved so much and see this terrible destruction of her own daughter. My thoughts are to report anything I see reportable to the police and otherwise, go about my life. I hope that does not sound callous but at this point, I wont let her pull me down anymore the dog episode was horrible and I am done with her.
Hope that helps,

Unfortunatly, I think thats the right choice Phillips - you cant help someone who doesnt want to be helped, you'll just mess your self up trying.
As per your post of the other day, this is the down side of deinstitutionalisation, people like this woman should be being looked after in some sort of facility, for their own protection and for the protection of their family and neighbours

My real concern is that she will hear voices driving her car as she drives daily and will hurt someone. And as the Detective said unfortunately this is what will happen to get her into a hospital. It stinks for her, people and animals. Phillipa

While receiving treatment with Xanax, you can experience abnormal hallucinations as a side effect of this medication. Hallucinations can cause you to hear voices or see things that do not actually exist. If this occurs, you may engage in odd or dangerous behavior such as walking out into oncoming traffic in response to these hallucinations. Recurrent or severe hallucinations that occur during Xanax treatment should be discussed with your doctor immediately.

On the other hand someone like you on xanax could wander out into traffic and endanger themselves and others couldn't they? There are a lot more people on xanax than with schizophrenia.
Maybe someone should warn your neighbors about you? How would you feel if you found out they were all talking about you? (And they probably are you know if their nature is to gossip as it apparently is)
It's a sad story. I hope she will encounter someone with more compassion than fear. And I hope you will find the help you need too.

Really? How very interesting to know. I must pass this information along to the neighbors who witnessed the behavior and the neighbors who now me included will wait for her to hurt someone. Glad I don't live there on that side of the neighborhood which is high dollar by the way. But no matter in situations such as this. Detective was very understanding he just repeated what I knew that unfortunately this happens a lot and no place to house. When I worked in the prison. Yes I did we had a separate unit for psych. Have fun. Phillipa

Per new email from those who witnessed. Phillipa
The day we were confronting Judy, the new neighbor (Hugh), me, Marianne, Ginny and Maddie were outside judys. That is when we called Animal control again, and 2 of us even called the police but of course that made no difference. Cindy came over sometime and went in but Judy is very hostile to Cindy and technically. Anyway, I think that was Sat and it was Sunday night that Judy called to say Cookie had died. And she said she did not know when however we fell she does know and is not telling. At any rate, it is a real tragedy all the way around. Judy put her trash out yesterday for the first time in 2 weeks. Who knows why. She never went back to her apartment in Charleston and they likely have notified her that her stuff is being put in storage for X days and after that will be sold or whatever they do with it. I heard she said someone broke in there and ---forgot what else. There has been contact with the apt complex so they are aware of what is going on.Say prayers this ends well, however that might be but I cant think of a likely way that would happen.

You were a trustee? Very impressive but you still mustn't keep violating the privacy of others by reposting emails. Whatever would Bob say ?
Have the neighbors reported you to the health department because your husband is a hoarder? Surely the emails would fly over that wouldn't they? Please post neighbors email address so they can be informed of threat to public safety, and don't drug and drive.

No obviously you are very wise. How do you know what I post is truth do you live here? Are the the one who killed the dog under a fake name? As anything is possible and there is a statue of a Duck in her backyard. As for being a trustee wrong on that one. Guess again, as for hoarder why not write him and ask. Do you know the homeowners policy here? More than three things in your yard or you get fined. Hence a hoarder is one with more than three things. As for xanax you have I'm guessing insulted many on this board. What about med cocktails? Are you on one? If so you could be of danger to others. Anything is possible in this world. Oh who you voting for? I thought all your previous blocks were due to politics. Now remember I may be hallucinating and could be anyone anywhere. So please leave my pseudo cut & pastes alone. Could I have written them? Hummmmm you just never know what you read on the internet. Phillipa whoever that is

If you posted the actual names of actual people, I most strongly recommend you contact Dr. Bob to have that stuff deleted. Common courtesy, or even just very basic common sense should tell you not to post names and other details about people who didn't explicitly consent to you putting up stuff about them on the internet.
I can't judge who is a bigger threat to whom (or what), but it should be most obvious that you won't find advice on how to handle this situation in here. Look for a law enforcement forum of some kind, they could probably offer advice. Unless it's not advice you are actually looking for, but a chance to gossip and speculate.

Talked to a real live detective. Nothing can be done til she hurts someone. Names are fictious. Would rather an invasion of privacy to post real names. End of story. People here have decided to go on with their lives and let it happen. Phillipa
