the amphetamines are over with for me...but I still maybe have a chance with focalin or concerta. I know its of course used for ADD and ADHD...but what are off label uses of it?? like drowsiness...see I am have the direct signs of adhd but my doctor refuses to accept it and use the traditional methods...so im going to have to think this over...maybe I need to stay on Nuvigil just maybe take 300mg. But still its really a heartache without being able to function correctly when someone morally refuses to treat a condition that is obviously apparant. Alot of this is caused by my mother's antistimualnt statements to the doctors and ill have to leave and get on my own...but its a catch 22 sitation because i can't even function correctly these current days. I did before...but right now its falling apart.
just ... what are the conditions for off label stimulant use?

I read somewhere that stimulants are used off label to treat depression and obesity, though the latter is frowned upon. I don't think Concerta, Ritalin, or Adderall are actually FDA approved for depression or low energy, you just have to find a doc that's willing to prescribe them.

hat you've had problems wit amphetamine abuse in the past, I have to say, I think methylphenidate would be a bad idea for you

Out of curiosity, how did you react to Wellbutrin? What dosage did you take? How about Abilify or Lamictal?

If your diagnosis is MDD or BD with ADHD, you might do well to try Strattera, possibly in combination with an antidepressant (Wellbutrin? Effexor?). It might be a good idea for you to explore treatments that don't involve psychostimulants. You can always go back to them if necessary. Abilify might help with depression and ADHD, and also prevent psychostimulant-induced hypomania.

Yea...amphetamines are good for weight loss not really methylphenidate....its not the same thing...its a reuptake inhibitor, not a release of dopamine. It may reduce appitite but it won't cause signifcant weight loss like dexedrine. It's a difficult situation because i don't have money to go to other doctors....im stuck with C. Callahgan...she's a smart doctor really..but she is difficult as hell to work with.
But yea...and lately i've been really low...both in depression and feeling i'm trapped and it causes me to just absoltuely hate who I am for not doing anything about this.

Yea...i've read that alot in medical articles...it was used alot in the previous decades like the 1950's before they had MAOI's until late 50's. It increases dopamine and that's why it has a postive mood effect. Yea...thanks, the medications im on right now...it just is going to be hard to work with my doctor...i can't get another doctor because no money...im on my mothers insurance and she pays for it...so I have to comply with both of them, even thought I absolutely hate it.
buy yea thanks eric....

i know vary well that abuse can happen with me if im tempted to redose after the wash out period happens, and this happened even with Vyvnase...it would last about 7-9 hours and leave me absolutely washed out...i usally redosed, that was my problem...
methyphediate i know vary well is abused among people in school, because its the only thing they can use, besides cannabis. The abuse is lower in my view, but still that doesnt cancel it out from happeing. I do think I should give it a try but the nasty side effects of methyphendiate...i rather try focalin xr...still none of this will even be considered until months or years.

hey scott...im on lamictal right now...300mg...wellbutrin did not work due to some kind of problem with my body not responding to it...also the same thing with strattera...something is not right with my digestive system....or a resistance in my bloodstream...i don't know but they had absolutely no effect at all. They should because I took it in the past and it definetly had psychological effects.
abilify is not good for me....i can't rerember the exact effects that I had a couple years ago but it caused agitation, and violent reactions.
yea...thanks for the post

dextroamphetamine is great for activating for people with depression, it was used much in the previous 1920s-1950's until MAOIs came in....
i don't think it would be ever used for my depression...but i can't say that....its just my doctor is difficult spelled all over.

You need to stop a lot of the medicines you're taking. Prozac you said did nothing for you. Get rid of it. Why are you on Lamictal? You're not bipolar are you? Nuvigil is a fun drug, but probably unnecessary.
ANYWAY.
Concerta, Focalin, Methylphenidate, Ritalin...All have been prescribed to treat depression at one time or another.

my doctor told me not to stop for medical reasons....the nuvigil helps in the mornings when it does take effect...it was chosen becuase traditional stimulants are not used in my case...yet there times when it has no effect. I'm on Lamictal for depression, same thing with prozac....

Pristiq is a strong drug. What are we treating with the antidepressant? Depression? OCD? Anxiety?

RJ, rather than pristiq, I'd try a combo of an SSRI (say Zoloft or Cdelexa) plus nortriptyline..... it will give a more ballanced reuptake of both seretonin and noradrenalin than Pristiq will, and this will be more likely to sucseed
Have you ever considered trying Parnate? Do you think your doc would be open to it?
