I need help here. I NEED TO AUGMENT, REPLACE OR REVERSE MY TOLERANCE TO LORAZEPAM. The amount I now need to unlock and quasi-participate for simple living tasks is NOT OKAY. I do not use lorazepam for the typical reasons. I use it to be able to push thought, action, move and make my movements less awkward, including my voice. it is required for anything not just freakouts. I literally cannot account for myself without it, I don't know how to tell you where I am. My living space is probably worth its own case study, and I don't want to describe far beyond that.
What can I augment with? I sometimes use amantadine which does help with the physical wierd feelings of how hard it is do things, but I am also more likely to just sit, and sometimes it can be unpredicatble. Like benztropine (Cogentin) it can soften me, but it doesn't help me functionally; one gives me blurry vision, both make me a bit silly, and not any worthwhile form of silly.
So far i have only experienced gabapentin like a kick to the head, included a recent high dose experiment; i don't think it is anywhere near the mechanisms that help me.

I was once told years a go that switching to another benzo for a period of time could reverse tolerance. I don't know this for a fact though. Phillipa

I used to take 12mg of lorazapam a day i now take 4mg and am stable. How did i get down to that you may ask, ??? did i taper. No i was stopped cold by a uneducated shrink,an spent the next year on planet pain. But it worked our well has i can now take 4mg a day with no problems an they still work great.A GP did over rule the shrink an gave me 100mg of valium a day to detox an they never registered on me in the slightest way. So i begged he gave me back loz the only amount he was able to prescibe was 4mg a day, saved my life really

flumazenil itself is a partial agonist, or whatever you call them when they are acting at subunits of a receptor.
i am not aware of much difference in degree of agonism (intrinsic efficacy) between the benzos (though if anyone knows i would probably really love to know if there's something i should know), or balance of subunit affinities that would be more preferable for me.
lorazepam seems to be the most enabling i have tried out of a small range, tho it has been a while.

How do you react to Xanax (alprazolam)?
I don't know if you necessarily want behavioral disinhibition, but Xanax is more apt to produce it than Ativan (lorazepam). I know that some people show sustained benefits from Xanax. You also have the option of using a sustained-release preparation of Xanax XR.
Xanax has some antidepressant properties. The only other BZD that has such properties is adinazolam. Both are chemically similar as they are both triazolobenzodiazepines.

I give this advice to everyone...high dose niacinamide. It acts on BZD receptors and potentiates benzos. I take at least 3 grams daily, in 2 equal doses. Take at least as much C as you do niacinamide, and a B-50 or b-100.

Are you sure you don't have OCD?
