Posted by Phillipa on January 4, 2012, at 12:15:47

Lets have a happy thread. Don't think we've done that before. With the cold weather over most of world Minus Australia. What's good in your world of mental or physical illness today. Mine is the cyst was ruptured by the dermatologist yesterday. So one less thing on my list of negatives. I'd like to add postives. So what is yours? Jan/P

For the moment, I am responding to treatment for a 35 year episode of severe bipolar depression. I can't believe how good I feel. This feeling is foreign and familiar at the same time.

Woohoo!

Yay for polypharmacy!

I see lots of positives and things to look forward to, things that are wonderful and so great to hear. I bet there are more also. Our bedroom is almost totally redorated. Almost all the painting completed, new Duvet and Shams. It's an art in the making. Jan/P

Ah, you meant physical or mental stuff...
Hmmm....
A lot of good stuff I suppose.
I started taking vitamins again, regularly, past few weeks now. B complex and multi, am adding folic acid, still not eager to take the calcium and fish oil, but I've got those too.
I'm eating less crap lately too.
I'm lucky, relatively healthy (knock on wood).

There are some really great people here and that makes me pretty darn happy! :-)

Sometimes when life sucks, it's important to remind ourselves of "good things"

what my sponser at NA tells me is to write a gratitude list. I am thankful im breathing, live some where, have a car, and have some friends...

there's a list whole lot more longer for things I am not grateful for too...i don't think I'll write it.

Livehappy used to my screenname during 2007 here on babble. your#1fan was my screen name for a long time too when I didnt want anyone to know I was rjlockhart, that was my secret buts its not anymore. I'm confessing everything now because I am hoping that the truth will set me free from this hopelessness.

A Gratitude List is always a good idea. Here's another suggestion, that a peer in a treatment centre gave me when I was in the depths of despair:

Make a list of enjoyable things you have never done that you would like to do, or things you haven't done for a long time. Don't censor out impractical ideas -- just brainstorm. His suggestion was to add one idea every day for 30 days.

My ideas ranged from "travel to Greece" to "buy a bright yellow shirt". It worked marvellously for me! I felt immensely more hopeful by the time I had less than 10 items. It wasn't that I would likely actually do most of the things, but that my world opened out again to the possibility of happiness.

BTW, as soon as I had outside privileges, I bought a bright yellow T-shirt!

My psychiatrist says that my dog should be wizzed up in a blender to create a tablet to augment my anti-depressant. Now that would be a novel treatment!
