Kind of took this in a way from an above post but it struck me. Should one feel something good or bad when starting or changing a dose of a med? If feel nothing does this mean doing nothing? I don't know but does seem a good question. As a pdoc I had said just take a medication and go about your life. Now with all the warning on meds and possible side effects or drowsiness is this the way it's supposed to be? Just take and go or feel something? I don't know? Thanks Phillipa

Not necessarily. It's common to experience some effects (or side effects) when starting a psych med but it's not inevitable.

>The best meds Ive had have also had the worst side effects. But I just deal with them unless impossible to tolerate. Look at Nardil. If it works for you its imazing, yet the side effects creep up, last long time and can cause many problem. Stick with it tho and within 4 months you're your old (good) self again. within 4 months all side effects will have ceased.

It could be. Side effects are common but not inevitable. For example, I never experienced any side effects when starting Paxil 20mg, but it turned out to be quite powerful.

But the pdoc had me on lopressor 25mg first as he said my anxiety at the time was so bad. Couldn't take inderal as thyroid condition. Still snow there we got 5 inches today. Strange for here. The drugs that worked best for me worked silently with no side effects. Like taking a vitamin every day. Not everyone gets side effects. Although I found when I first started on an SSRI that I was aware from day one that I was taking a strong med. Then after a few weeks, the side effects went away as my body became accustomed.

Hi. Thats exactly what happens with me when I take an SSRI, except the instant effect, which feels pleasant simply drifts away after a week never to return. Hence me & SSRIs dont get on

Thanks for your responses this has encouraged me to continue the lexapro and go to 5mg with the luvox. I just don't want my brain to get used to this as he did to the luvox and benzos. Tolerant I guess but with luvox my body says no you will always need me. Why no idea? Phillipa
