I thought about it, and my relatively short-lived anti-psychiatry mood needs to come to an end. I don't know (or care, really) if a brain scan would reveal a problem requiring meds...what I do know is that I'm a better person and a more functional member of society when I take at least a little bit of a mood stabilizer. So, that's the path I'm going to take: meds (trying to keep it minimal) with supplements and my newfound spirituality.
I apologize if my anti-psychiatry/anti-drug posts made anybody angry or upset or made you feel put-down.
:-)

No need for an apology, you were passionate about what you believed and you expressed it.
Just curious, what mood stabilizer are you going to take? I guess you are bipolar then huh.
Good luck with whatever you do. You sound like a good caring person and deserve a better life as the rest of us do.

A close relationship with Jesus will without question keep your reliance on meds to a minimum. That said, I don't think there is anything wrong with meds. It's just that we tend to put them first, almost as if they were gods, and put God second or even not on the radar screen. It's not unusual that we give more thought and time to our med situation each day than we spend talking to God.
The 10 commandments were written not so much as rules to follow, but rather ways of life that minimize or eliminate pain, hurt, and suffering.
The first is, of course, love your God above anything else. When our meds take more of our attention than we give God, the road ahead gets darker. Not due to punishment, but due to us voluntarily saying God I don't want you, and He politely says ok and stands out of the way, at which time the evils of the world are free to swarm us. When God gets more attention than our meds, the meds work better because of something intangible beyond our comprehension.
Not meaning to give a sermon here, just wanted to give you my support and thumbs up..

Yeah, I prayed about my decision. A day after I prayed, my mother literally said "God helped create meds so people can live functional lives."
I saw the point immediately.
I take Abilify, usually at a low dose, but I'm stressing now so its 30mgs/day until I get over the hump.

Been thru anti-med periods before. Always ended up in the same place. Better to just accept this as a permanent condition. I used to go off meds every summer like clockwork, convinced i had "fixed" myself. It's really just a form of torture that i won't do to myself anymore. Just thank God the meds exist and accept the limitations they have. They are not perfect but for many people, a lifesaver and makes life tolerable.

You wrote,[...my mother..said, "God helped create meds so people can live functional lives"...].
I am unsure as to what you are wanting to mean here. If you could post answers to the following, then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.
A. Which God was your mother referring to, if you know?
B. What is a med, according to your mother, if you know?
C. What was the basis, if you know, that your mother used to substantiate any claim concerning what is in question here?
D. other answers related to the above if needed

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect posts regarding God to Psycho-Babble Faith. Here's a link:

That'll be considered a new thread, so if you'd like to be notified by email of follow-ups to it, you'll need to request that there. Thanks,
Bob

I think this is a good decision, although everyone is different, of course.. in any case, it would be a shame if all your knowledge of drugs didn't get you any benefit whatsoever out of it :)
good luck!

What are the criteria that you used, if any, to write that it you think that it is a good decision?

What are the criteria that you used to question what criteria europerep used to write that he thinks Christ_Empowered is making a good decision?
