I'm discontinuing pristiq by taknig it every other day. Then I'm gonna try taking it every 3 days. I have some prozac and i wonder if it would be safer to take prozac on the off days to try to block some of the withdrawal effects?
I know the drug stays in the system for about 48 hours so I'm concerned about when I hit the 2nd day off the drug.

No regular effexor as you might be able to substiture that in smaller doses. Hoping those with the prozac tapering chime in. So your're going for amulsipride? Phillipa

Hi! I've never taken Pristiq, but I was once on Effexor and discontinued it. Got pretty rough and having seen a suggestion that one or two doses (20 mg) of Prozac might help, tried it. Worked like a charm.

I took 10 mg prozac last night and then 10 mg today. So far so good. I just took 5 tonight since I feel pretty good just a little light headed. See what tomorrow brings. Sobriety did you just stay on prozac then or did you intermittently dose effexor in there?
I was planning on taking it everyother day then every two days. But maybe I'll just take prozac and decrease that since introducing it after 2 days off is kinda stepping backwards and prozac shhould be a smoother way to decline.

I took 20mg of Prozac one day and another 20mg the next. Prozac leaves the body slowly so it tapers itself. After that I was fine.

Yeh, I took 10 mgs the night before my 3rd day off pristiq, then 10 mg in the morning, 5mg that night and then 10 in the morning. I feel fine pretty much back to baseline. I don't think I need to take anymore prozac.
I would recommend this to someone who is trying to get off pristiq since after 48 hours it will leave your system its probably easier then trying to ween that way and more convenient then using effexor. I was only on it for a short time but for people on it for months and months they should taper more slowly and spend more time at each lower dose.
So yeah, I'm off it now, and it wasn't bad at all to get off using prozac.

Thanks I'm glad I didn't have trouble coming off it.
I will, since without anything I struggle to get things done and don't really enjoy anything. I need something for motivation and anhedonia. Luckily my lack of what i call "positive symptoms of depression" like feelings of worthlessness, anxiety, sadness, allows me to come of meds and be ok. I'm not sure what to take next, have some adrafinil, but I think I wanna try something more tried and true for depression and noradrenergic. I'm tired of SRI drugs, they just make me feel worse. I find that really low doses of prozac though help with motivation so maybe I'll take that, since my room looks like a bomb went off and I have to find a job and apply at some schools.

It might be counterproductive to take Pristiq intermittently. You might experience withdrawal spikes. That could sensitize you to having more pronounced withdrawal symptoms. It would be analogous to alcohol withdrawal kindling. I think you would be better off taking smaller fractional doses every day if you want to go the route of cross-titration. I'm hoping you will be able to simply cross-over.

Already off it. Today is my 4th day off and I feel fine. I switched to prozac in order to ween. Thanks anyway Scott. :)
