Soma is really the one I don't get. Please someone explain how dangerous it is as I fear meds killed my Mother. It's for the MRI results of back. Thanks Phillipa

Soma (carisoprodol)'s main metabolite is meprobamate (known as Miltown, a very popular tranquilizer back in the 50s).
It should be safe as long as you take it as prescribed, and don't mix it with alcohol. You should ask your pharm/doc if it interacts with any of your other meds you're taking (I assume they've already done this?)
Hope this helps.

Took 400 of miltown with 5mg of valium three times a day in the 70's and drank three beers at night. Felt great and taught aerobic dance, ran , and raised three kids. One day decided didn't need the miltown so just stopped it. I didn't know a thing about meds at the time. I had no withdrawal and when next saw the doc he acted amazed and I had no idea why. I was about 24 at the time. How the heck did I do that? Oh I know everything your're telling me is correct hence my threads. As they the docs and pharmacists have me thinking I'm crazy? Phillipa

Maybe you were not proned to over-thinking during an earlier time of life or it was to a lesser degree? GAD can have the hallmark of over-thinking and developing a worse case scenario with catastrophic thinking with most situations and, in particular, with changes.
Over-thinking can paralyze movement toward improvement....If you keep doing the same thing, you'll get the same results.

Yup knew absolutely nothing of meds when took them in the 70's hence just stopped the miltown not a single withdrawal effect. Phillipa

Glyndin funny as after I read what you wrote first I remembered when I was pregnant with my Son and had bleeding colitis the doc dispensed pills to me in his office no name on them. I went back for a refill and the receptionist who gave me the refill said here's your prednisone. The med that killed my Mother. I went to the library and read that if the baby lives right after birth all will be okay. I was young didn't tell the ob-gyn. I lived in fear til his birth and since natural birth I broke down in tears and when the doc asked me what was wrong I said I thought the baby would die. He said why didn't you ask me. So the internet didn't stop me from seeking the info I needed. Meds feared since her death. I was so panicky that somehow the valium and miltown and beer just spontaneously worked. I thought to myself now I know if anything every happens like this again I have a magic pill. Hence I never abused them or took higher doses over the years. Phillipa

Well, you know my MH history and you know what profession I call mine. You also know of my educational background... Even given those factors about myself, my common sense tells me there IS something negative to information overload.... It confuses and confounds rather than helps.

Oh I definitely agree with that. Hence would be nice if a person only needed one doc like the old days and didn't ship you out to specialists all the time like here. Then each one has an opinion also. Which doc to believe? Phillipa

Or 4.5 MILLION pages of google results for every health topic with only 25% of those being correct or relevent. (Smile) And the number 25% is being generous.

In a word... No. I have become aware that information is just information. In predicting what with happen with **me**, the only way to know THAT is trial and see.
For too long I used information as an excuse and rationale for never making a change.... that's GAD at its finest with anticipatory anxiety and fortune telling. Fear and dread were the stumbling blocks to getting improvement in my life... Thus, I was stuck for quite a while getting no better and markedly worse. I see others doing the same. It makes me sad because I believe there is improvement to be found.
This is the end of the thread.
