Combining SSRI's

Hi there,

Just wondering if I dropped my paxil to 5 mg. from 10 and added Zoloft would that be o.k.

I have been switching back and forth between SSRIs over the past few months with no ill effects. That is a very small dose of Paxil, besides.

All of the SSRIs have similar half-lives, except for Prozac. I have read that some people have had problems switching from Prozac to other SSRIs too fast. There should not be a problem going the other direction, from another SSRI to Prozac. You should also be safe switching between any of the other meds, with a brief or no washout.

Also, I am currently taking Prozac 20mg with Zoloft 100mg and have had no problems. (I am planning to drop the Zoloft at some point.) My pdoc endorsed taking a small amount of two SSRIs together while switching.

Yup, that's doable. A lot of people combine SSRIs as they all hit different neurotransmitters. I hope it helps you.

I was on combined 7.5 mg paxil and 12.5 mg luvox at one time and no problem. Good luck. Phillipa

When I was in the psych ward, taking pooped out 20mg prozac at the time, they added 10mg lexapro to it. There were no complications from that combination. There certainly could have been, but for some reason it was ok. Unfortunately it did nothing to improve my condition.
