I'm still taking zyprexa 10mg, but my doctor says diabetic no more! And took me off the metformin. She did say that metformin helps you lose weight. But my A1C is below 5.
So my question is was it the geodon I took long ago that gave me the diabetes. Thats when I became diabetic. I stoped the geodon about 3 years ago. And slowly the diabetes is going away, since going back on zyprexa. Unfortunatly my wieght has gone up a bit since geodon. The weight is not going up any more TG.

Good news Zyp, I have a portable glucose meter and due random checks as I take zyprexa as well. My blood sugars have not changed since starting the Z although my cholesterol has slightly increased.
Do you have a glucose meter? It may not hurt to do your own testing as the last test your GP did may have provided a false low? Not saying that's the case but checking your sugars with your own meter is a cheap insurance.

That's great news about the diabetes! I always thought that Zyprexa was the culprit for diabetes. I guess it's not in your case.

So glad for you! I might be joining you in the next year or two in no longer meeting the criteria for diabetes. After a diet I had to do as I try to get approved for weight-loss surgery, my latest A1c was 5.3%! Except, I haven't kept up with the diet after it ended...., although I'm only up 3 lbs. from when I stopped it.

I took it around 10 years ago. I was overweight to begin with, and then it packed on more pounds. I don't remember how long I was on it, maybe 6 months to a year. I also tried Seroquel around then, I'm thinking it was tried after I was off of Zyprexa. Then I was not on an antipsychotic for several years. Then I was on Abilify for a short time, but the restlessness/akathisia was so foul that I soon stopped it. I have been on a low dose of perphenazine for around two years now, I think. I had impaired glucose tolerance, but not severe enough to qualify as diabetes yet, around ten years ago, at the Zyprexa or Seroqual time. I was diagnosed with diabetes around two years ago. The only med I am on for it is metformin ER (500 mg two times a day). I do take my blood sugar readings at home.
I think the Zyprexa also caused me to have high cholesterol one time when I was on it. I remember once my total cholesterol was 218, and I was only around 22 years old, and vegetarian at the time. But since being off of Zyprexa and Seroquel, my total cholesterol has been back at a normal rate in the 160s or 170s. Although, now that I say that, I sort of remember my latest reading of it may have crept up to the 180s; I don't remember exactly.

So the zyprexa didn't give you diabetes? Thats good to know! My cholesterol is mostly normal, HDL is a little low. Triglicerides were a little high last time. I've been taking zyprexa for 11 years. I also take perphenazine too now. How do you find it compares to the zyprexa? I wanted it to replace the zyprexa but it just couldn't..

~Well, I still blame or highly suspect the Zyprexa, even though it was something like seven years later that I was diagnosed. The pre-diabetes started around its time, if I recall correctly.

~My memory is sort of cloudy about the time that I took Zyprexa and then Seroquel, and why I went off of them. My use was for depression and traits of OCD, and was always with at least one antidepressant in the cocktail, and I used different antidepressants with the Zyprexa and Seroquel than I am now with the perphenazine, so I can't compare apples and apples. But I agree with you in thinking the Zyprexa is more powerful. I was given just one dose of Zyprexa Zydis when I was hospitalized two years ago, and I do remember being amazed at how powerfully it calmed me down from an angry depressed state. I am happy the mix you have of Zyprexa and perphenazine sounds like its working well.
