A Good Book

I know Mindfulness is the new buzz word and I practice mindfulness meditation without any huge benefit that I can discern but I still like this book: The mindful path to self-compassion; freeing yourself from destructive thoughts and emotions by Christopher K. Germer. Lots of good research.

we should make a self help/whatever book list thats helped us.
If your trully interested in spirituality and desperate for peace and suffering badly I reccomend The Power of Now. Eckhart Tolle is a real good writer. that book and its ideas are responsible for most of the success Ive made in the past years. I mean Ive put in the work, but if that book wasnt written Id be years behind..
Its an extremly deep book, so you have to be desperate/interested. lol. Plus all the books the guy has written are great.
I guess another book thats good is "The power of the subconsious mind" I think. Once i read this book, I became addicted to positive thinking and took it overboard. Nor will it do much for depression at all. But its always to think positive rather than negative. Saves you stress and makes time easier.

Hi Sam,

I'd like to offer a different opinion on the Tolle Book. I didn't find it helpful because, I felt, threaded through the book was a new age idea that, since we create our own consciousness, if one was in pain, there was a sense that one could blame the patient. Plus, I didn't jibe with the pain-body theory. Maybe because my pain-body, in his system, would be enormous!

As they used to say "different strokes for different folks."

In the spirit of friendly debate,

Zana, It's in my Amazon cart, waiting for my budget change. I liked the co-author's book Lovingkindness (Sharon Salzberg).

Thanks for the recommendation. Are you reading it?

Sharon Salzberg didn't co-author this book. I hope we're talking about the same book. Christopher K. Germer, Ph.D. is the sole author of this one. But I have read Sharon Salzberg book on Lovingkindness and liked it OK. I like this one better because he offers empirical evidence to back up his claims and that gives me more confidence in the efficacy of the method.
Hope you like it. I think it's very solid.
