Anyone heard of Afobazol? A new (non-benzodiazepine) anti anxiety drug available OTC in Russia?
Comparable efficacy to Diazepam without any of the side effects or any addiction/withdrawal. Sounds good eh? Maybe too good to be true...I shall be investigating further no doubt...

It appears to be some experimental Russian medication. There isn't much information out there and I doubt it would be something I would personally want to take since there is barely anything written up on it.-- Jay

Will be getting via post within the next 7 days, its cheap too $42 (£27) (inc shipping) for a months supply.
It's primarily for anxiety, so no word on using it as an OCD treatment yet. I dont know much about OCD but if there is any 'anxious component' to it. Theres a chance afo could help.

Russian name is :
АФОБАЗОЛ
(russian text doesnt display properly on here but if you paste that into google it will still search for the correct word, and then you can read stuff in english via google translate)
Ive also seen it refered to as AFOBAZOLUM
Im on day 5 of my trial with it now, maybe a slight calming effect is noticable at this stage. But it could just be placebo. The papers Ive read say its full effect isnt really felt until week 2/3 then by week 4 its better than diazepam. I can only hope thats true!

Neg if you're tolerant after 40 years to benzos and still have anxiety think this might help? Phillipa

Bloody hell 40 years! I took xanax for the first time recently and got into trouble with withdrawal after just 10 days @ 1mg so I can only imagine what its like for you.
Well the jury is still out on afobazol at the moment. Myself and a handful on my Agomelatine google group have started taking it in the past week. So far all we can report is that its having a subtle calming effect after a few days. It doesnt seem to have an immediate effect like benzos.
If the papers I've read are to be believed it could be a very useful anti-anxiety tool. It isnt addictive, is non sedating and apparently as good as/better than diazepam after 4 weeks. It even has a mild activating effect.Ive also read that it can 'potentiate the effects of benzodiazepines' so maybe it has some potential for you to cut down or stop. I will keep you all updated on my / my groups progress. I have pretty bad anxiety so if it works for me then it should be able to help others too.

Neg seriously have during the years been as low as .125 of xanax with absolutely no problem getting there. Get this when in 1974 given Miltown and took with valium 5mg tid and one day didn't feel needed the miltown so just stopped it no with drawal at all. Even the doc at the time was more than amazed. Been cutting down for a long time now just doesn't seem to bother me as they don't seem to work hence to afobazol. Thought might recapture at least some relaxation. Thanks for answering. Phillipa

I had to stop taking afobazol as it was causing worsening of my gastritis condition , I get this with a lot of medications.
In the time I was on it I cant really say it helped my anxiey much at all. The interest in the drug in my google group has dropped considerably. Only one or people reporting that it effective, and they are taking a mix of antidepressants and benzos as well so that doesnt mean much.
So in conclusion I'm not impressed with Afobazol.

Ha! Same day I post that one member of the google group has posted that he is experiencing a calming and activating effect from afobazol after 5 weeks of taking it. He is also taking agomelatine.
