For me, it usually takes half an hour - 45 minutes for 10mg Valium to kick. Diazepam is supposed to be a longer acting benzo - however that 'ahhh' feeling goes within a few hours for me.

Hi Roslynn,
For some reason or other, Valium makes me very emotional. Also, I don't find it to be as strong as Ativan... Effect should kick in after about 15 minutes... should last for a couple of hours (if you're a rookie). Mind you, it lost it's effect quite soon for me, but YMMV.
Love,

Hi takes longer from what I've read then for other benzos sometimes up to an hour for me. I take it once a day. So long lasting. Yes for me the ahh feelings went away but took years. And true what above poster wrote YMMV. Phillipa

Under the tongue, chewed first to speed it up?
10 minutes, increasing bit by bit until 30.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your help. It never did kick in for me. I don't think it's a good med for me to take.
Thanks again,
Roslynn

I'd say about two hours generally except for hospital IV use.
Xanax is much quicker acting, and has a short half life, hence possibly a benzodiazepine that may carry a risk of greater habituation than others potentially.

Hi Jay,
I'm used to ativan, so if valium is more subtle, that might be why I never really felt it work. Thanks for your reply.
