This medication i take at night, 100-200mg will get you to sleep. Unless you have a reaction to anti-psychotic's.
I never would take Seroquel during the day, it's mind dulling, can't think with full capacity, feel "blitz". But my doctor wants me to replace it with Xanax, and me and him are really talking about it, and i disagree. Xanax helps anxiety without causing mind "dulling". Its "relieving" "relaxing" "quenches calmness". Said all of those to the doctor. I have to have a speech ready to say to him before i go in, because he wants me off Xanax (which was from a previous doctor).
Anyways...never mind that crap.
Share your Seroquel Experience....is it like what?
for me it's "tunes" out thoughts, and causes you to mainly just find a place to lay down.
Funny there was a medication back in the 1940's called "Seconal" that was used as much Seroquel today. But it was called "The Gift of Sleep" on Psychitric Advertisments back in the 1940's. Funny.
Well, that was just as for entertainment.
Seriously how does Seroquel effect you?

Do you mean that your doctor wants to replace Xanax with Seroquel?

> Seriously how does Seroquel effect you?I took Seroquel twice at two different hospitals. The first time that I took it, it affected me in a way that was similar to the way that it affected you. Mainly, it knocked me out. I took it during the day and slept during the day, and it wasn't long before I was taken off of it. The second time that I took it, I only took 100 mg of it (I don't know what dose I took the first time around) and actually became more psychotic on it. The ideas of reference that I was experiencing became more pronounced, as did my auditory hallucinations and certain types of visual hallucinations. On top of that, I had some pretty bad difficulty breathing. That time around, I refused to take more than a single dose of it.

I take 25mg of Seroquel per night for insomnia. It alsmost never fails to knock me out within an hour. Unlike other medications that affect the histamine receptors, I have built up no tolerance to this medication. My MD writes the script for 75mg but I am so sensitive to it, that the 25mg almost always does the job.

Jedi different from tolerance as that's what's happened with valium seems less is better. RJ took one night of in the hospital I never took it again as it made me unable to speak in the morning although I knew what I wanted to say. This was 50mg x two as always wake after four hours also gave me xanax low does, valium and cloral hydrate at that time . Should have knocked me out for at least a year. Phillipa

I usally take 100-200mg at night. That's what the doctor said. But i realize that, it makes me incredibly hungry like Zyprexa did a year ago, i blew up like blimp.
It will knock you out at that dose. You can't mentally function really.
And back to the subject.....my doctor wants me to replace "Seroquel" over Xanax for anxiety during the day. I can't do that. Xanax, i know is addictiing but has been there during the horrid times of life. It should have a good crediblity for its anti-panic mechansim's, but too bad its abused alot by street (i've heard from alot people about Xanax recreational use)
I particlarly do not like it, it only causes sedation....that's it. Nothing. The only reason for me to use/ is during severe anxiety times.
Anyone else about seroquel.
It does feel something similar to Tylenol PM. (Seroquel)rj

Hey RJ,
I took 300mg (at nighttime) for a while (several mos?). The first month I was very sleeeeeepy. Then I got totally used to it. Sure, I would fall asleep as if under general anaesthesia, but no problems waking up or doing my stuff during the day.I took some klonopin during this time too

I agree with you. Seroquel during the day turns my brain into fuzz. I sit there like a zombie.

I take Xanax with Seroquel at night, and believe me that is one of the best sleeping combination's. I asked my doctor if its ok, he said yes. But i've been on Xanax for years. Tooken during anxiety attacks, and for sleep.
I used to take Temazepam, you know i'm actually glad i dont take that anymore. That's old school medication used for sleep. And addicting but i just stopped taking it flat out, had some sleep withdrawls but i was fine. My new pdoc pulled me right off Temazepam in the 1st session. I'm glad now.
Seroquel is better, it's calming to the mind, but its not good for day anxiety "zombify" effect will happen. Wel'll for me....
thank;) for sharin'

Seroquel is a newer antipsychotic. And it is more tolerable than other psychotic medications. Such as Haldol....(that takin it the extreme). Haldol omg....that would be torchure to be on that medication! cant think, Tardive D, it does lower you body temperture though i read...i'm on fire alot.
Anyways,
back to what you where sayin' "curosity and excitement" that wierd. It usally just tunes things out, i was sittin on the computer took 100mg. And 30min later..."i didnt care" what i was doing, lost motivation. i wanted to sleep. So that's how it is for me.So, but that intresting that you had that effect.
Tell more if you want...

Yea, its "main" stream now for sleep. Back in 1990's ambien was the thing.
Now's its Seroquel or Trazadone.

> -rjThere are other choices. I take a small (10mg) dose of amitriptyline (that's the general dose for sleep, around 10-20 and you really don't want to be taking more) because the Seroquel I take for other reasons is not enough these days. Whether one or the other is working enough I don't know.
TCAs can be rather powerful for some. I guess I'm sort of used to the antihistamine receptors and in general I have sleep problems.
Doxepin I find too weak, but an initial dose for someone not used to it might find it rather strong. If it doesn't last for staying asleep it also might help going back to sleep.
And there's 7.5 or even lower of Remeron, but the problem for most is weight gain. Otherwise it may actually promote some structure of sleep, just as some believe 25mg doses of Seroquel may. Theories, as we are all different.
Trazodone I have found can do rather strange things at times lately and it does have the mCPP metabolite problem so it may affect different people differently.I find it a even more harsh way, sort of unnatural and knockout like, to combat sleep problems than other agents. I have taken it over the years here and there. And then there's the priapism issue, which is not zero, but can happen. But that's just my experience.
If you're lucky enough to have Lunesta work for you, it can be taken fairly longer than Ambien/Ambien CR without tolerance. Sonata tends to be weak.
In general, unless your doctor thinks so, as far as Seroquel, I don't think that more than 25 or 50mg should be necessary. One starts to get some psychoactive properties at 100 and definitely at 200mg.

> And back to the subject.....my doctor wants me to replace "Seroquel" over Xanax for anxiety during the day. I can't do that.Yxibow is right about the dosage -- that's a very high dose for sleep. I'd bet your doctor is thinking of a low dose, taken regularly, to help head off anxiety during the day. I wouldn't think he'd be talking about taking it once the anxiety actually starts -- although I could be mistaken about that.
I know that you like Xanax, and want to stay on it. It might be interesting for you to ask this doctor why he wants to replace Xanax with Seroquel -- perhaps after hearing his reasons, you'd consider accepting his treatment plan for you.
Also, although this can be very, very difficult when discussing a medication you really don't want to try, it's worth giving this a truly fair trial. Say, two months of trying Seroquel, and if, at the end of that time, you really can't stand it, talking to your doctor about another change at that time?
Best luck to you.
