hi guys,
Is there any explanation why folic acid makes some people( including me) very anxious? It just does not make any sense? I read a theory that it got to do with zinc metabolism.

Hi, Sigimund
Actually, it did not take a lot folic acid to produce anxiety: 1,200 mg( 1.5 RDA). It bothers me for the following reason:
a) folic acid is a common vitamin known not to be harmful and not known to produce any side effects
b) folic acid known to reduce bad cholesterol and be benefical for the heart; I have high cholesterol, so I expected folic acid to be helpful
c) I heard that other people experience anxiety on folic acid( I know it is contradictory to point a)
d) folic acid might help with depression and schizophrenia. I am depressed, so why folic acid instead of being helpful makes me feel worseMike

Folate is important to the synthesis of monoamines. I wonder if you had something similar to the initial anxiety people can have on antidepressants?
