Something is wiping me out.

Posted by Bonnie_CA on December 5, 2007, at 21:33:42

Ok, so now the tally is that now I can't exercise without joint pain the next day, I can't drink alcohol for the same reason, and now when I get a cold, it wipes me out for days. That's right, I can't work because of a simple head cold. It's not good, considering I'm a teacher. I'm only going to be exposed to more and more colds during the next few months, so this just isn't going to work. I think it's the Lamictal, because I never had this problem when I was only on an SSRI. I take 200 mg of Lamictal, 10 mg of Lexapro, and .50 mg of xanax. I have an appointment soon with the pdoc, so I'll see what he has to say, but I think I want off Lamictal, because this is just unacceptable.

Medications can cause those symptoms, but Chronic Fatigue is also a possibility, especially with HPA axis dysfunction.

You should also have Vitamin D3 and Vitamin B12 levels checked, as well as a CBC and ferritin level. There are a number of reasons for fatigue. You should see a doctor.

Does Motrin or aspirin help the joint pain?

Good luck!

Have you had bloodwork done lately? Turned out I had anemia, when I thought it was my psych drugs. Just a thought,

I wish someone would do bloodwork. I don't care how "young and healthy" I am, I'm taking all these drugs, I'd like someone to keep an eye on my organ fuctions. I went to the doctor about joint pain, and I was hoping she'd so some kind of blood test for something, but she didn't. Last time I had one (couple years ago), I went into the doctor's office and asked for some. My bloodwork has always come back clear, but anemia is not out of the question. My mother and her mother are both anemic.

I agree with the blood work..a few years ago I found myself so exhausted I could barely make it through work and was freezing all the time..it turned out my thyroid was shot to the point where I tested positive for lupus..thankfully I don't have lupus..so I would certainly get your doctor to run some tests..

So you have hasimotos thyroiditis the autoimmune type most common. And if ANA is also high would help to explain the positive lupus. Phillipa

I believe the best thing to do is to get a complete physical. It could be the meds, it could be something else.

I was exhausted and had joint pain for the past year and a half. I was tested for a whole bunch of things during that time and they thought I had Fibromyalgia. It got really bad January 2006. I got a new gp and had a complete physical. He did an Electrocardiogram. He found out that I had tachycardia (a fast heartbeat).

Immediately I was sent across the street to a cardiologist and I was told that I had Ectopic Atrial Tachycardia. Through attempts at treatment it was found that it's a chronic condition for me. The heart beats too fast from a locus other than where it's supposed to and thus it beats inefficiently. Therefore I wasn't receiving enough oxygen in my body. It made me exhausted and I hurt every time I would walk more than a few blocks. I felt like I was 80 and I'm only 37.

Well, they tried a couple of catheter ablations and they didn't work. Now I'm on Sotalol, which is a beta blocker and an anti-arrhythmic drug that keeps my heart rate within a normal range. I'm doing better, I have better energy and I have less pain. It's amazing what having a good heartbeat and getting enough oxygen in the limbs can do.

And I thought it was my medication that caused the heart condition. In fact, it did not. I had symptoms before Cymbalta and I definitely have an Ectopic Focus that indicates that this is no side-effect.

So, I hope your issue is less serious and not chronic, and that it's a simple fix. At least get checked out by a couple of doctors if you don't get any real answers. It took me almost two years to find out what was really going on.
