Does anyone knows the stimulant Pirisudanol (Nadex) from Novartis (Switzerland) ? Or does anyone having some experiences with it ?
It is used very seldom for states of exhaustion during depression, but why ?

I found some information about this drug in Spanish: following is the google translation. it's a little weird and not too informative unfortunatly. ("upheavals of the attention"?)
But apparently it is a type of ADD treatment.
Upheavals of the attention,
concentration and of the memory(dimaleato Pirisudanol)
PROPERTIES: It has a metabolic effect at level of the cells of the nervous system facilitating the processes of activation of the cerebral crust, stimulating the acetilcolina formation.
It has an action on the attention, increase of the memory, recovery of the intellectual faculties, improvement of the psicomotora coordination and ansiolítico effect.
INDICATIONS: Upheavals of the attention, concentration and of the memory.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated in treatment with L-it drugs.
DOSAGE:
Adults: 2-3 capsules to the day, after the meals.
Greater children of 6 years: 1-2 capsules to the day.

Hi,
More info.....
Pirisudanol is the succinic acid ester of pyridoxine (a form of vitamin B6) and of deanol (DMAE). It has been used in doses of up to 1.2 g daily. Sadly, it hasn't been studied very thoroughly. Pirisudanol has been used to treat mild cognitive impairment (ie. mild dementia). It has also been used as a treatment for fatigue and depression.
Deanol (DMAE or dimethylaminoethanol) is a precursor of choline, it may enhance central acetylcholine formation slightly. It has been used as a central stimulant in the treatment of hyperactivity in children but its efficacy is not proven. It has been included in preparations used as 'tonics' and for the management of impaired mental function.
As far as I know, pirisudanol is no longer available in Belgium, France or Switzerland. It is possibly still used in Italy (Mentium), Portugal (Pridana) and Spain (Mentis). This information on availability may be out of date.
Pirisudanol is probaly hard to get hold of. DMAE, on the other hand, is available as a supplement. I'm sure that some of the people on psycho-babble alternative will have taken it. As is the case with pirisudanol, deanol hasn't been studied very thoroughly. In terms of side effects, I did come across one possible case of tardive dyskinesia in the medical literature.
Regards,
Ed.

I have some pirisudanol and I took two capsules yesterday, sorry don't know mgs now, normal, Mentis brand. They did not seem to have any effect. Thanks for your information Ed_uk! although it is just as vague as everything I was able to find! maybe it's just a bad drug that no one cares about b/c its not effective!

I wonder if just taking pyridoxine and DMAE together would have an effect. I've not seen anyone suggest the combination anywhere, but probably someone has.

Hi,
Perhaps it would, or maybe just taking the DMAE on its own would have a similar effect.

hi
i live in spain and in august 2007 was diagnosed with ADD by a psychologist. My local doctor when i went to see first in May put me on Mentis 2 pills/day for 3 months while i was waiting for the appointment with a psychologist. when the 3 months finished i had to take a months rest, then 3 months again. When i first started taking mentis i noticed an increased mental focus and a slight buzz. throughout the time the effect would come and go and vary a lot. it was great when it worked. I did a lot of research and apparently its only available in a few countries in Europe with switzerland, belgium for example having taken them off shelves. There is very little info on this drug and has hardly been researched. Here in spain apparently its available without prescription. i have yet to confirm this however. My psychologist said he would increase the dose to 3 pills/day for another 3 months but my doctor only prescribed me my old dosage for 1 month. I need to go back and correct the prescription...

>Hi i posted my own story of using pirisudanol in this thread somewhere(if you can find it). I couldnt help notice the last bit about tardive dyskenisia which are tics (involuntary movements without purpose). My doctor who prescribed the stuff earlier this year said he himself takes pirisudanol and that it is a type of vitamin that students sometimes take to aid their studies (its sold here in spain as Mentis). Ive noticed for ages that he definately has tardive dyskenesia. Could this be related? He is a great doctor and i get along with him fantastically...
This is the end of the thread.
