For those whom are using BuSpar dividoses, how do you take it? I am told to take 15mg a day, and the doctor told me he'd leave it up to me whether I want to divide the dose up throughout the day or take it all at once. I've decided to take a single dose in the morning.
Are there any advantage/disadvantage one way or another?

I have only a basic knowledge of half-lives and absorption rates.
Would it behoove me to take a medication like this as one single dose or divided up throughout the day?
Any useful answers is greatly needed and appreciated.

Hello DiscoPuppy,
I have been on Buspar for 15 years.
I take 20 mg in the morning and 20 mg in the afternoon.
The recommendation is actually to take this drug three times a day.Keep on smiling,

Does BuSpar have a very short half-life?
It's kind of inconvenient (with my profession) to have to divide it up in three doses, but if I am helped with a more therapeutic effect, then I suppose I will find a way to divie it up throughout the day.
Currently, I am taking 15mg once a day in the morning.

Hello DiscoPuppy,
My doctor has told me that the daily dosage should be spread over the day.
He is an experienced psychiatrist who is very knowledgeable about pharmacology.
I suggest that you take 10 mg in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon.Best of Luck,

I agree that dividing the dose is best. I was on it for several years (10-20 mg/day) along with nefazodone, which was a great combination while it lasted, and that was how it worked best for me. I believe it has a complex metabolic pattern with several stages, so spreading the dose out avoids some rollercoaster effects, mild though this particular med is (for most people).
I found that there was about an hour or so after a took a dose when I felt dopey, and only after that the real anxiety/stress reduction and anti-depressant effect kicked in and I felt "normal" (i.e. better than without it!) for about 4-6 hours. Dividing the dose helped to reduce the dopey period as well as make the good effect last longer.
This is the end of the thread.
