I've been upgraded, er, downgraded, um, CHANGED, from
mild bipolar II
to major depressive
woo-hoo!! No more mood stabilizer blunting for me! I'd like to thank my daily mood chart and my pdoc for their hard work and consideration.

p.s. GAD, panic attacks, and PTSD (which my T thinks everybody on earth must have to some degree by now) still also in the room

Fantastic! Good for you. Do you think that your moods actually changed or that they just got it wrong originally? I've been worried lately that my Dx of MDD is not accurate.

I think that I was only ever barely on the spectrum of bipolar II, and that the mood stabilizers I was on only ever blunted the effects of PTSD (which is also "mild"). It wasn't until a new pdoc asked me to keep a daily mood chart that we saw, on paper, that my moods aren't really prone to major swings; and that the irritability and agitation I suffer from are most likely due to the effects of PTSD.CS

Great!
P.S. How'd you do it. Whenever I try to convince my doctor I'm *not* bipolar, I always end up making myself look more bipolar.

It had always bothered me, while on Lamictal, that it squashed me flat nicely, while I didn't think I needed squashing in the first place. And I had a running argument with the old pdoc about the side effects of the medication - why take something of limited benefits that's causing me more trouble? - that contributed to me leaving the practice. Quite sensibly, this new pdoc asked me to chart my mood before putting me back on a mood stabilizer; and he concurs with my therapist that the irritability and agitation and I am prone to is more likely due to the effects of PTSD.
The mood chart I found had moods ranked from 0 (being really bad) to 3 (being not noticeable) and was not too overly detailed to fill in every day, but gave a good snapshot of how I was feeling.

Yeah, thats what mood stabilizers did for me. They locked me into mono-mood, but that particualar mood was unbearably low.
