Hi missjulie,
Thanks for keeping in touch. I did read your message above (in my Nardil thread)--thanks a lot--I've just been working extended hours and didn't get a minute to reply. I'll see if I can fix my babblemail so we can communicate.
I'm finishing week 8 on Nardil. I went up to 75mgs this week and still the same. No response. Still emotionally disabled, still that cloud of sorrow surrounding me. Still guilt and anxiety overwhelming me.
I suspect this might have something to do with the fact that Nardil was altered & reformulated.
I read some posts from Brooke, who was on Nardil 10 years ago and was doing very well on it, and now all she has is side effects but no relief from the medication. That, along with all the people who were on Nardil for 20 years or so and now it won't work for them. It's a shame. I wish we could do something about it, but seems difficult. Meantime, I will remain on 75mgs till I see my pdoc in 2 weeks and then I'll tell him and see what he says.
I might switch to Parnate and see if it does anything for me.
PS. Have you gained any weight?
Me, nothing, thank God. Supposedly a side effect of MAOIs, but didn't affect me.

Oh I'm SURE that's the problem, the new Nardil, no doubt about it. Not sure why I feel very little relief from Parnate, however. Trust me, it ain't all it's cracked up to be either, though of course you should give it a try and hope for best. We are both on week 8, both seeing dr. in 2 weeks, so I'll keep you posted and hope you'll do the same, it is so helpful to hear your thoughts. Nope, no weight gain for me either, thankfully, though I gave up chocolate when I started taking Parnate (just be be on super safe side re diet) and that alone was quite a shock to the system :) I'd be pretty surprised if I GAINED after giving up what was, unfortunately, becoming a staple of my diet. Well, I guess that's one good thing it did for me; kicked that addiction cold. Have a good week. best missjulie

You know, I've been wondering if Parnate has been reformulated in any way just like Nardil was.
I started a thread asking that very question and got no responses. Do you know of any other people around who are on Parnate, and what their responses have been?
I think we have to find this out. I don't understand why it's not working. Do you feel the supposed boost of "energy" that Parnate is known for? Do you feel any sort of relief whatsoever, in any area of your brain/emotions? Even a small relief?
One good thing about Nardil is that somehow I'm actually sleeping very well. I had insomnia for the last 7 years and always took Tylenol PM, with little success (and tried many others prescribed by my pdoc.) Yet somehow I go to sleep early and get up at around 7am everyday by myself, whereas before I'd end up getting up very late after a sleepless night. But that's probably the only thing about Nardil that is good. Emotionally I'm still drained and destroyed.
Anyway, my babblemail was working properly, I don't know what happened to it. I will check it and let you know when it's fixed.
Thanx and keep in touch!

Just an update...I am off Nardil now. I couldn't take it anymore. Palpitations, anxiety, stomach problems, etc. It was an awful 2 months. When I took it years ago I did not have one side effect, so you know something happened. I was able to plan a wedding, fly to Aruba, and hold down a job. Now I can hardly function. Something definitely changed with that med. So now it's on to Marplan. We'll see what happens with that one.

Hi Ms. Julie,
Happy to report all is still going well on Parnate. The afternoon fatigue is essentially gone - though if I'm in a sedentary position at that time I'll feel pretty sleepy. Insomnia is totally under control, too. I'm taking a low dose of a muscle relaxer (Tizanidine) at bedtime - was taking lorazapam but thankfully got off, it wasn't easy either even though my dose was only .5mg for 6 mo. I take Tizanidine primarily for chronic pain - tmj, tension headaches, not quite sure entirely what's wrong with me - but it does help me sleep. I've had pain every day for over a year + 1/2 and it's been essentially treatment resistant. That's probably the biggest depression/anxiety inducing element in my life right now - and of course that response only makes the symptoms worse. It's a vicious circle! Otherwise, I've noticed I have more acne since I've been on Parnate and (although my sex drive is higher!) it's more difficult for me to actually reach an orgasm. But... these seem to be a small price to pay for the benefits I'm receiving from the drug. I think it's a good match for me at 30mg. How are you doing?Good luck,
Sophia
