HI,
I have been taking Effexor XR for almost a year (300 mg/day)with good results as to its anti-depressant effecacy and with no side effects.
Because I continute to suffer from a lack of energy, my PDoc today added Wellbutrin. He said something to the effect that Wellbutrin can produce an energy boost when taken with Effexor. Does anyone have any experience/feedback on this? I was prescribed Wellbutrin four years ago (in conjunction with Remeron) and it did absoltely nothing for me. No discernable effect at all.
THe PDoc had also added 100 mg a day of the mild stimulant Provigil. Anyone have any idea as to why? Is it an additional energy booster/motivator?
Interestingly, I had a PDoc 3 years ago (when I had health insurance) who perscribed 300 mg of Provilig to be taken twice a day (upon awaking and at 12:00 noon). For awhile this helped me more than any anti-depressant I've taken but after a week or ten days it became ineffective. Any knowledge/comments you may have on this are greatly appreciated.
Take Care and Good Luck Everyone.

If I were you I would try one or the other at first so you know which one is working. Wellbutrin might take a while to start working. I find Provigil works right away for daytime fatigue and motivation but it does wear off for me if I take it too many days in a row. You could take regular breaks every week or 2 to prevent building up a tolerance. High doses are not better. Wellbutrin might be a better long term solution if you can get it to work. BTW, either can cause anxiety and/or insomnia.

Thanks for your feedback, Shaner. Insomnia is probably the single most serios problem I have (Ihave gone four days with absoltely no sleep three times in the past year). With my doctor knowing thing, I wonder why he's prescribing insomnia induncing meds. I guess he's counting on the Ambien to overpower them. Any ideas?

In the very beginning Provigil definitly affected my sleep. I had to take it very early in the morning in order to get to sleep relatively on time, but that has gone away. Good to read about that tip on taking breaks from the Provigil, to keep the tolerance down.
