Anyone: over 15 drugs made u worse, then found one

Posted by chiron on April 16, 2007, at 22:59:06

I use to get some help from SSRIs and Wellbutrin, but now they make me cycle, and sometimes it's pretty far down.

I've tried 7 Mood Stabilizers, 3 Antipsychotics, 1 Stimulant, 1 MAOI. All of these have made me much worse, sometimes requiring ECT to get out of the black hole.

I just can't take this trial and error thing when they bring me so far down. I'm not good without meds, but I'm better than I am with them. Has anyone had so many meds make them worse and then magically found one that worked for them? Can you share your story?

I'm thinking of giving up on med trials. I may also do maintenance ECT. It's awful to think about taking the time off work, the whole procedure, and the memory loss (just bits and pieces for me) but it has worked short-term miracles. And the benefits outweigh the negatives. But will maintenance ECT really maintain my mood, or will it wear off like a drug?

Have you ever tried a combination of low dose AD with 2 mood stabilizers? I take effexor, Lamictal and Lithium (low dose lithium). Or maybe just Lithium and Lamictal together? If you haven't, I would stronly suggest you consider before ETC.

All of those drugs have made me worse. How would combining them change that? To me it seems like I would just get a triple whammy and ECT would be my savior. But maybe you know something I don't.

Can you elaborate more on your diagnosis, symptoms, age of onset, drugs you have tried, alone, what combos, etc....

Thanks
