I got some Benadryl for Allery & Sinus Headache.
The ingredients are: Acetamophen, diphenhydramine HCI, phenylephrine HCI, pain reliver, atihistamine and Nasal decongestant (that word scares me).
I did take a Benadryl on Emsam with no problems. But it was the most basic one. I cant remember if this is the same box. Is there a more basic box (and not the non-drowsy type)?
The reason I ask is because I am trying to ween off Seroquel (makes me feel stoned on Nardil), and I need something else to help me sleep. Michael

>To be safe, stick with JUST the antihistamine diphenhydramine HCI. You may have a reaction to phenylephrine (a stimulant related to pseudoephedrine). Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is safe.
Things TO AVOID:
pseudoephedrine
phenylephrine
dextromethorphan*although I have never had a reaction to any of these, many people do. Ask your doctor what s/he thinks.

So I guess the phenylephrine HCI makes this a BAD med? Glad you warned me. You could have saved me a visit to ER. Michael

A non-sedating antihistamine such as loratadine or cetirizine would generally be prescribed in preferance to diphenhydramine for an MAOI-user.
