Glutamate/glutamine , Lithium, Turmeric, BDNF

Posted by Jimmyboy on January 16, 2007, at 20:46:55

I was about to start taking Parnate as a last stab at overcoming my atypical /bipolar style depression.

I got interested in some previous posters thoughts on hippocampal BDNF ideas.. during that it said that Lithium and Turmeric both can help build up BDNF, ( as well as exercise, fasting, etc)

In the meantime I took some low dose modafinil, and I have felt much bmore clear headed lately, more driven, but no desire to socialize or anything like that, but a million imes better overall...

Above posts said modafinil works by stimulating the release of glutamate ? Does this increase/ interfere or do nothing with increasing hippocampal BDNF?

Does Anafranil do the same thing , that is glutamate release as modaminil.

Also anyone know exactly how Aniracetam could connect to this ?

Not to sure. I know there seem to be a number of different pathways for elevating BDNF. There must be some common denominator, I suppose, but not sure.

Anyhow, I know that NMDA antagonists like zinc can boost BDNF, not sure if this means that drugs acting to activate glutamate would decrease BDNF.
