Lamictal making me stick foot in mouth!

Posted by theo on December 20, 2006, at 20:51:45

I'm on Lamictal at just 50mg and have felt almost a little whiny and weak. I got out of a relationship and it really didn't bother me much. Now I can't resist calling and when she says she has plans for an evening with a friend, I get sarcastic and start quizing her like a jealous freak. I'll then catch myself, after I've spouted off and get so mad at myself.

This is my second try and I remember feeling similar, semi-obsessive, aggitated and sad off and on. Anyone else?

Not that you mention it I did get angry more on 50mg and the excess salivation forced me off the med. Love Phillipa

No. I thought I'd stay in my relationship now as I'm feeling more positive generally and therefor more positive about the relationship. I'm on 400 mgs

Ye. Lamictal can make you agitated at the beginning. I suggest liberal doses of benzos, especially lorazepam taken several times daily. It will make you more COOL. Then you can taper off after you get used to Lamictal.

400 MG? Wow!

I'm on 200 MG. Wasn't 200 enough? It's off label to take more. Though I might be happy to take more. In what facets of depression did it help you? What 400 did that 200 didn't?

Yes it's a lot, isn't it? You can see I'm a fan.

I've got rapid cycling bipolar II and my depressive crashes kept returning at the lower doses. They weren't as bad as they were before but they were still bad so I kept increasing the dose.

At 400 mg I still get crashes; I'm not sure if they are better than they were at 250 mgs. The effect of increasing the dose from 250 to 400 may have been temporary but it was definitely helpful at the time. I wouldn't want to lower it now for fear of what would happen.

I think Lamictal was pretty helpful for me especially in shortening the crashes. But then I need Zyprexa or I'm very nervous. Nver linked the nervousness to Lamictal (had that before as well) but it's certainly worse. Temper tantrums and the like.

What else do you take? Your condition seems similar to mine.

I don't take anything else. I seem to be very socially anxious at the moment and don't know if the Lamictal is contributing to that. It might be just that I'm getting out more.

On the other hand I don't throw plates like I used to when I didn't have the Lamictal.
