Lamictal - morning, noon, or night?

Posted by craiggetty on December 4, 2006, at 3:27:04

Starting it tomorrow. Any thoughts on best time to take it? Should I expect it to be energizing or make me tired?

I'm taking it to augment my current combo of wellbutrin xr and adderall xr. I also take seroquel at night to sleep.

I wouldn't call Lamictal a sedating drug, but some people do report feeling tired when they first start it. I think reactions to Lamictal are variable. I was not sedated at all with it. Many people who combine it with Wellbutrin find it energizing. I always took Lamictal in the morning to start with and later split my doses morning and evening for a more even effect.

I will be very interested to know how you respond to the addition of Lamictal. My doctor uses it frequently to augment Wellbutrin.

Good luck.

I split my dose 50/50.

The starter pack has you start with one pill in the evenings. Next dose level has one in evening, one in a.m. Then it adds one to evenings, and next in a.m., and so on.

I split my total dose, 75 mg in a.m. and 75 mg in p.m. I've found Lamictal to be slightly activating, though not overly so.

Good luck! And go slow with dose increases.

Interesting as the starter pack I was given was 25mg for two weeks, then 50mg for two weeks, then l00mg. I took it at night. I didn't think it kept me awake. Love Phillipa

I have the same starter pack as you. How long did it take for you to feel benefits?

Unfortunately for me I had to stop at 50mg as I had an uncommon side effect that was disgusting and unbearable. Excess salivation. I couldn't go 30seconds without spitting. But the med was okay. Love Phillipa

Lamictal made me very agitated and gave me insomnia whenever I took it without benzos. I took it in the morning for that reason.

I take 400mg in the morning. I tried it at night once, but felt so tripped out (almost fully hallucinating) and insomniac that that was the last time I did that. I find it quite activating, although I have a problem with rolling eyes and twitching face whilst I am in work meetings - so socially acceptable, I know!
