That was my "The Matrix" type question this morning.
Feeling brave and a "what the heezee?", I took the cheaper. Being somewhat a forced issue, I still gave it a whirl. To my surprise, I did not become unhinged or hyperviligent or completely squirelly. I proceeded to have a fine and dandy productive day.
One dose does not begin to tell the tale, however, the fact my pervious med phobic tendencies did not appear and YES, they always have before with the first dose --- well, makes me almost feel strutworthy.

Are you on citalopram now? What dose? (And how much Lex were you taking?)
I've been on citalopram for ages. Never taken Lex. Lex is way overpriced. I think citalopram is a good med.

Yep, citalopram HBr (that hydrobromide term kinda sounds like something I've used to remove hard water stains from the toilet - smile). It was a forced issue due to a change in my Ins. coverage --- typical finding. Anyway, I had two options, as I had (surprisingly) never been on it - I could try it or lie and say I did. I opted for the honest approach.
I think it's gonna work out, at least it's looking alright in the very, very early stages.
Hope you're doing good.....

Hi Glydin
Good to hear you're doing well. IMO, Lexapro is overprescribed.......generic citalopram would be an equally effective, equally tolerable and LESS EXPENSIVE option for most people. Although a small number of people may prefer Lexapro, most people would do just fine on citalopram (and some people actually prefer citalopram). Lexapro is surrounded by a LOT of marketing hype. Citalopram is a good med too!
Patients on 10mg Lex can switch to 20mg citalopram (which may be increased to 30mg or 40mg if necessary - which it probably won't be). Patients on 20mg Lex can switch to 40mg citalopram, which may be increased to 60mg if necessary.

Hi G
Normally in the morning - but I've also taken it in the evening without problems.

One week down since the change and it's going fine so far. I started with AM dosing and switched to PM as I found C-HBr made me a bit more sleepy than Lex did - nothing I absolutely couldn't deal with but PM dosing made more sense.
The really good finding is my appetite has decreased from what it was on Lex and I've lost about 4 lbs. this week on the way to losing 6 more. Again, it's not a big deal but 10 lbs. off will just make me more fabulous. (Big Grin and eye rolling)
I think of you often and always are wishing you wonderful wellness.
Take Good Care,
G
