Well I finally got the number values back on my thyroid as I have hasimotos and the TSH was more than low it made me hyperthyroid. So I called the endocrinologist that I was having to wait til Dec 20 for an appointment as my numbers have been falling and anxiety and acting wierder than normal. So I give the lady the numbers immediately I go to the top of the list for appointments. She said this is much more serious so I see him next Thursday. Any idea what's going on. My sythroid has been the same for 9 years. Guess that's why the valium and xanax arent't working and I'm not sleeping and maybe I'm really not depressed. Wouldn't that be wonderful to know there was a reason they could measure or see on a Scan of why you are too anxious to go anywhere or be alone or a Scan to show it? I hope I'll be able to sleep tonight as I haven't been able to in a long time. And it's been getting worse hence my frantic threads. Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,I am glad to hear that the endocrinologist is going to sort you out. You must feel a bit less anxious now that you have got an early appointment. Do you have a problem with your thyroid being over active or under active? Don't you mean HYPOthyroid which as far as I konw means under active?
It is a relief when they find something definite that they know how to treat. I hope this takes a weight of your mind and you get a good night's sleep. You deserve it. I hope next Thursday is a breakthrough in your treatment.
Ciao

Wow Phillipa, I am amazed that your doctor did not discover this earlier. Weren't you on medication for your thyroid before? My mother has the same thing as you since she was in her 20's and she takes levoxyl?sp and she also takes only 5mg. valium per day.
I hope this is the answer to your anxiety problem; as a fellow anxiety sufferer I can certainly relate and how I wish in a way there was a medical reason for it that can be alleviated by a simple medication. I am cheering for you to get relief,
Love,
Val

Whoops! Sorry levoxyl is for hypothyroid. Oh well. I don't know that much about the thyroid gland. Well I am still praying you get some relief.!

Hi Phillipa,
I'm SO glad that they caught this.Your overactive thyroid would explain a LOT of your physical anxiety symptoms.
You say that your numbers have been changing (falling) for some time now. Does this make sense in terms of increasing anxiety or depressive symptoms?
It doesn't matter "why" the same medicine isn't working the same way. Our bodies change with time. Maybe you lost some weight, or gained some weight, or maybe you're metabolizing or absorbing the drug differently. Maybe your remaining thyroid cells decided to start working overtime? who knows? the important thing is to get your hormone levels balanced and under control.
You may still have psychological issues that you can talk about in therapy. At least therapy can help you figure out how to adjust to life after living with the anxiety for so long. One of the best things I learned in therapy is helping me figure out ways to communicate better with my loved ones.
Once you get a treatment plan organized with the endocrinologist, you should get in touch with your pdoc about how to treat any remaining symptoms.
If you haven't been sleeping well, and have been feeling too anxious to go out, be alone, etc, your "thyroid" anxiety can lead to "psychological" anxiety. especially if it's chronic. Certainly poor sleep is enough to make most people feel really yucky. Even depressed if it's been chronic for a while.
You hang in there, okay? It sounds like you're going to be getting some help. I'm so happy for you.

Glydin I think this GP is not very smart as he lowered the synthroid from .125 to .112. It makes no sense as I've been hypo for all these years. Why would it change from hypo to hyper? Someone said Graves disease the horrible word Cancer. But I don't have any idea why I'm still on synthroid? And I slept last night. Strange to as I just cold turkeyed the luvox and nothing? And slept till noon from lam? Love Phillipa

Taking thyroid supplementation that is too high can throw you the other way into being hyperthyroid from hypo and thus lowering your TSH - your body's not having to send out a stimulating message as you have enough or more than enough, maybe in your case. Did they do the whole panel done - T3, T4, thyroxidine?
I bet the endocrin will do a great work up and get you some good answers as to how to adjust stuff. They might include some other good labs like an ANA and such. Getting the right thyroid balance could make a wonderful difference in how you feel. I hope so....

Glyndin complete panel. My ANA at my insistence was also done. It's l:l60 right low for me as it runs around 1:320. Not that high but the other concern is the diverticulitis I have I have liver tests done and one specific one was for autoimmune it was an ASMS and it showed a low positive which could indicate autoimmune hepatitis. But it was so low that it was ignored and I cancelled the liver CtScan. My TSh droppped really quickly as it is tested almost monthly. What is confusing is that I am tired. I would think with it hyper I'd be climbing the celings. And I hope the Levoquin class can't remember for the diverticulitis didn't trigger this change . Was on Cipro and Flagyl for l0 days. Love Phillipa thanks for your response

Phillipa,
Levaquin is a horrible, nasty poisonous drug for people who have psych. conditions. and for people who don't sometimes! I will never ever take another quinolone a/b. It causes all kinds of anxiety, insomnia, fear, panic. Just read the boards on "Rxlist" and you will see the people who have awful anxiety--this stuff affects the CNS badly in people who are on benzos, other psych. meds. I think it should be banned forever.
